I wanted to know if high priced creams such as La Mer and kerastase hair products have better results than what you may find cheaper or at a drug store.

Hi!

Wow, a blog that combines Beauty & Science! It’s like a beauty geek’s dream come true… I hope you don’t mind if I “pimp you” on my blog a bit and add you to my links!

Anyway, my question: What is the deal with “restructuring” treatments for hair? I mean, I get that the vague concept is to “restore proteins” to your hair or some gobbledy-gook, but isn’t hair essentially dead? Can a restructuring treatment really force-feed amino acids or whatever into our manes?

What are your feelings on parabens? Is this something we should avoid in a product? If so, any recommendations on brands to check out? Thank you

Is mineral makeup better for your skin than other foundations? Also, some of them say they have SPF 15. How much of the makeup would you have to use to actually get this level of protection?

Hi! I recently bought a new moisturiser which contains SPF. Is it alright to use this as a night cream as well? Will applying SPF to your skin day and night cause any harm? Or should I just go get myself a night cream?

Thank you :)

I wanted to know about glycolic treatments and peels available in drugstores and beauty counters. What do these treatments do? Are these treatments effective or are you better off going to a Dr’s office for a facial peel with a higher acid content? If the treatments the public can buy are effective, what ingredients and/or percent concentration should I look for?

Hi,

I love your site and I have a question regarding sun protection. I hear a lot about using vitamin C and antioxidants in addition to a high PPD sunscreen to prevent sun damage and aging. Is there truth to this, or is this just something the cosmetics companies invented? Thanks!

I am curious about all the different types of facial moisturizers out there – eye cream, face cream, face lotion, serum, day moisturizer, night moisturizer…etc. How different are they exactly, and which ones are truly necessarily?

Anonymous May 24, 2006 at 4:36 am

Hi, I was curious about what you thought of the Ojon products, specifially there restorative hair treatment. Is this any better than other products, and how would it work to improve your hair?

Thanks!

getting into my twilight years (i’m nearly 30 now ;P) i find that my once lovely skin- especially my t-zone- is drying out more and, scarily enough, breaking out a LOT more (which was a rare event in my younger days).
my question is two fold…
1)why might this happen now?
2)since my skin is so sensitive now, do you know of a moisturizer that has nothing at all in it but moisture?

thanks in advance!

hey, so i was watching tv today and i heard that it is really important to put face masks on. my face is starting to look really bad now, its dry, and im breaking out badly on my cheeks and forehead, i was wondering what type of facial masks i should use, and what other products i should use.
i’ve been told to use plain soap, but i’ve also heard that drys your skin out and to never use it. oh and i use proactive, but it stopped being efficitve on my skin.

Hey – what do you think about the “Kiss My Face” cleanser line? http://www.kissmyface.com/

Anonymous June 10, 2006 at 3:14 pm

Your blog is simply amazing! Thank you for telling the truth.

I was wondering about yellow underarm stains. I don’t know how to a) prevent them, b)get them out of clothing or c) what they actually are caused from.

I’ve been told that it is something to do with teenage hormones and that I’ll grow out of it.

Any advice would be helpful.

hello! i lurrve this site. i have two questions: first the blinc kiss me mascara supposedly forms little tubes of mascara around your lashes that don’t smudge or move until you take them off. Really?
second, i just read about a skin care regimen that advises using benzyl peroxide in very large (3x packaging directions) quantity twice a day. it also advises a gentle cleanser and moisterizer (also in large quantity). they recommended cetaphil and neutrogena on the spot acne treatment. Waddaya think?

Hey there, eva again.
I have another one. Is it okay to put eyeliner on the inner rim of your lower lid? that always seemed like a place not to put makeup to me, but makeup artists are always telling you to do it. Is it okay?

Okay, if over applying lip balm dries out your lips. Does over applying moisturizer dry out your skin?

The Great Eyeliner Hunt begins….I’ve talked with Blogdorf Goodman about it – and she is writing an entry about this also….take a look at http://jilbean.blogspot.com/ if you want to participate:)

(Just a comment on your scars and stretch mark post)
I was always told that if you keep your skin well moisturized it helps prevent things like stretch marks. (maybe not cure them but heeeelp prevent)

Are acne scars like regular scars?

Anonymous June 23, 2006 at 10:20 am

I’m against fur and animal suffering, so being a makeup artist I’m very concerned about where the hair comes from for the makeup brushes; and if animals are harmed in the process?

Anonymous June 28, 2006 at 10:41 am

I just wanted to know why do people say it is bad for your skin to sleep with makeup on? is it bad even is its just for a couple hours? does it really clog pores even if the makeup is non comedogenic? thanks!!

I’ve heard alot of things about Pantene Pro-V’s shampoo and conditioners. Alot of hairstylists swear on their hair-dryers that it is awful for your hair. Supposedly, it coats your hair with plastic or wax to make it seem smooth, soft, and shiny, instead of really moistorizing your hair. It also reportedly makes your scalp itchy and hair fall out. However, I’ve been using the Pantene Restoratives shampoo and conditioner for a few months now, and I find my hair less frizzy, more managable, smoother, and softer. Of course, I also use John Frieda Anti-Frizz Serum and Pantene Pro-V Restoratives Frizz Control Ultra Smoothing Balm (I highly recommend the latter, just apply to wet hair). Phew, that was long. So, my question is: Is Pantene good or bad for my hair?

What with the left brain and right brain? Are the questions divided into left brain and right brain questions?

what kind of glue is fake eyelash glue?

Anonymous July 3, 2006 at 9:35 am

Hi Brains! Lately I’ve been getting a lot of cuts and scratches and I don’t want my skin to be permanently scarred. I was wondering if you could recommend a lotion or treatment to help with my scars.
Thanks!

I’ve heard that aplying oils like jojoba oil, almond oil and coconut oil is good for your hair, I’ve been thinking about using it, so I wantes to know, is it true that almond oil is good for your hair?

Can all shower gels be used as bubble baths, or are some ingredients only meant for short-term skin contact?

k July 4, 2006 at 1:40 pm

Hey there!

I always buy a sun care specific shampoo and conditioner for times like now that I’m going to the beach regularly, but I wonder if it’s really worth doing this, are sun care hair products (like shampoos and conditioners) really different from the regular ones?

Anonymous July 5, 2006 at 9:06 pm

What a great blog! I’ve started reading labels and actually know what some of the stuff means now. My question is, is there a difference between regular conditioners and deep conditioning? Why do they tell us to use a deep conditioner once a week? Why not use it every day?

Andy May 15, 2008 at 8:21 am

How do you use an anti hairfall mask? I’ve got a tube from Pantene but all the directions are in Chinese!

Mandy June 17, 2008 at 5:03 pm

I have an ongoing battle with Shampoo. I am allergic to most of them with Pro-V, Infusium, Head & Shoulders and L’OrĂ©al (so far) being the worst ones for me. I use VO5 Extra Body and it doesn’t seem to bother me as bad but still I deal with itchy scalp and contact dermatitis.

I know you’re probably going to refer me to the Dermatologist for a patch skin test… I just wish someone would come up with a widget where you could plug in the products you’re allergic to and it could narrow it down. Hee. Wishful thinking, eh?
