Eva Inquires:
Hello! I lurrve this site! I have two questions: first the Blinc Kiss Me mascara supposedly forms little tubes of mascara around your lashes that don’t smudge or move until you take them off. Does it really?

The Left Brain “Lashes” Out:
Extending the “Kiss Me” name to mascara just seems slightly off for some reason. Kiss Me Lip Balm? Ok. Kiss Me Mouthwash? No problem. But Kiss Me Mascara? We just don’t get it. But we digress… Here’s what Blinc says about their mascara:

“IT IS NOT A PAINT.
Conventional mascaras are generally oil-based paints. Kiss Me mascara does not paint the lash, but rather, forms a tiny tube around every lash. The tube adds volume as it wraps itself around the lash, and it also extends past the lash thereby providing a lengthening result as well.”

Is this true? Well, sort of. Most mascara formulas use some kind of wax, or wax like substance, to coat lashes. When Blinc talks about other mascaras being “lash paint” they’re talking about this type of formula. Compare this wax-type mascara to Blinc’s mascara formula – it contains no waxes at all. Instead, it’s based on a polymeric resin called acrylates copolymer. This ingredient is similar to those used in hair styling to form adhesive films that hold the hair in place. (By the way, there are other mascaras that use the same acrylates copolymer. Elizbeth Arden’s Double Density Maximum Volume Mascara, for example. So Blinc isn’t as unique as they want you to think.)

So it does look like Blinc has at least attempted to optimize their formula to spread better and form a better film on the eyelashes. Do these little tubes really make the lash longer? There’s no way to tell without testing, but in theory it is possible that the mascara coating COULD extend a little past the tip of the lash. We’d be surprised if it was much of an extension though.

What about the smudge proof part of the claim? Well, most mascaras are designed to be at least partially waterproof. Some are better than others but any high quality mascara should pretty much stay in place until you wash it off. Of course even the best mascaras can exhibit some degree of smudging depending on how much you sweat, etc. So don’t get your expectations unrealistically high, ok?

The Brain’s Bottom Line:
While there’s nothing scientifically amazing about the Kiss Me Mascara’s claims, they have a formula that’s different than many other brands. Does that mean you’ll like it or that you’ll be able to tell the difference? Not necessarily. But if you’re in the mood to try a new mascara, it looks like it’s worth a shot.

That’s all the time we have for today, Eva. Come back tomorrow and we’ll post the answer to your second question. (Oooh, we just love cliff-hanger endings!)

YES this mascara really works! I’ve tried everything and this really will not smudge or come off AT ALL with normal wear. The downside is that its not volumnizing as other “normal” mascaras but worth it if your sick of the black smudge beneath your eyes after a long day.
