Amy Asks:
I was wondering what an “ionic” blow-dryer really does for your hair. I’m in the market for a new blowdryer and my old blowdryer is salon quality and very reliable – but needs to be replaced. I borrowed my roommate’s ionic blowdryer and swear I notice a difference. Am I dreaming?
The Left Brain Says:
“Wake up Amy, you’re dreaming!”
Ionic Dryers are one of the biggest rip offs since the ionic pet brush.
(Today’s post really has nothing to do with pets, we just thought it was funny to see a dog with his own stuffed bunny.)
Anyway, first, go back and read our previous post on the subject, you’ll see that these dryers don’t do any special to your hair. Then go read this article at hairboutique.com that says ionic hair dryers may be causing depression. The article doesn’t cite scientific sources, so we’re skeptical, but somehow the author manages to tie together this ionic dryer controversy, Niagra Falls, and bird poop so at the very least it’s an interesting read. Hey everybody, it’s Bird Poop!
Finally, you can read what the Mad Scientist Network has to say about the subject. While their scientists don’t have the beauty industry expereience that the Beauty Brains have, they came to basically the same conclusion: ionic dryers don’t do squat.

Great article! I personally favor the Karmin G3 Salon Pro Professional hair dryer (which is an ionic hair dryer) because it’s powerful, healthy on my hair and has all the features of a pro model
