SEVENTEEN MAGAZINE AND FANTASTIC SAMS SALONS TEAM UP TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR LOCKS OF LOVEWeek Long National Cut-A-Thon Will Benefit
Kids Who Have Lost Their Hair Due to Illness
NEW YORK, NY (SEPTEMBER 5, 2005) –Fantastic Sams®, the world`s largest chain of full service salons, is partnering with Seventeen Magazine, America`s #1 teen magazine, to raise awareness for Locks of Love, a national, non-profit organization that helps hundreds of financially disadvantaged children who suffer from long-term medical hair loss.
From Monday, September 18, 2006 to Sunday, September 24, 2006, participating Fantastic Sams salons are offering free haircuts to all men, women and children who donate ponytails measuring at least 10 inches in length to this worthy cause. The promotion and free haircut coupon will be featured in the October issue of Seventeen Magazine, available nationwide on September 5th. Seventeen’s inspirational four page spread showcases makeovers of four Seventeen readers who cut their hair for Locks of Love and received trendy short styles from top celebrity stylist, Ashley Javier.
Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children 18 years old and younger suffering from long-term medical hair loss. The hairpieces provided by Locks of Love help to restore self-esteem and confidence to these young men and women.
When Seventeen Magazine asked us to participate in this fundraiser, we immediately said ˜yes`, says Scott Colabuono, president of Fantastic Sams. Locks of Love is a favorite charity of our salon network. Last year alone, we donated over $135,000 and 10,000 ponytails “ the largest single contribution ever to the organization.
Most people don`t understand how difficult it can be to lose your hair during a serious illness, according to Madonna Kauffman, President and Founder of Locks of Love. But through this program, anyone can change a life for the better by simply getting their hair cut.
“As the fashion and beauty bible for today’s teens, we know that hair is an incredibly important part of what makes a young girl feel beautiful and helps define her identity, says Seventeen Editor-in-Chief Atoosa Rubenstein. We`re excited to help by rallying our 13 million loyal readers who love to take action when they can help others.
