My hair is long, dry and damaged (porous) due to using a flat iron. Why do silicone serums, including products with cyclopentasiloxane, make my hair more frizzy, while regular conditioners smooth it for 1-2 days? I am most interested in the frizz-effect that cyclopentasiloxane has on my hair because it is the opposite of all the wonderful things I have heard about it.

I have read on some websites that because silicone is not water soluble, it can build up on hair and become brittle and cause the hair to break off. I have had a problem with severe breakage and after tests revealed no medical explanation for this, I used a clarifying shampoo to strip my hair and stopped using all products with any form of silicone, including my shampoo that had three types of silicone. The breakage stopped almost immediately. Can silicone cause breakage?
