Does Hylexin Really Work On Dark Under Eye Circles

by Right Brain on October 27, 2006

Etienne Inquires:
I love your blog because it is so informative and a great unbiased resource when trying to be a smart shopper. I have looked through your archives but I haven’t come across a post that directly addresses my problem: serious dark circles around my eyes. I have had these ever since I was a kid, so it has nothing to do with my lifestyle or the amount of sleep I get (though allergies do play a role). Do you recommend any creams or gels in particular? I have seen advertisements for expensive ones like Hylexin; I would be willing to pay the price if I knew that they were effective. Just to clarify, my problem isn’t necessarily puffiness or dryness, but primarily the dark coloration in the eye orbit (it looks like I have black eyes). Is there any product short of a good concealer that will help me out?

The Right Brain Responds:
Thanks for the kind works Etienne. We looked into this Hylexin product and found that their website does a pretty good job of explaining what causes those dark circles in the first place. And we quote Bremenn Labs, makers of Hylexin:

Serious dark circles (the kind that make you look old, tired and exhausted) are about, of all things, the oxidation of hemoglobin (blood) in the capillary matrix of the peri-orbital eye area. What a mouthful!

These capillaries actually “leak” blood that begins to oxidize (through a process called hemoglobin degradation)… creating a dark bluish-red pigmentation that looks distinctly like an ugly bruise.

What does all that mean in plain English? Tiny little capillaries deposit blood around your sensitive eye area. The blood turns deep purple and you end up looking like you just went 12 hard rounds in a boxing ring.

Ok, so now you know what causes your dark circles. But what will get rid of them? The American Academy Of Dermatologists says that Vitamin K has been shown to have some effect on reducing facial bruising, which is caused by a similar type of blood leakage. So a Vitamin K based product might help reduce under eye circles. But Hylexin doesn’t contain Vitamin K. Hmmm. So does this stuff work? We can’t be sure, but we did find out that Bremmen labs has been reported to the Federal Trade Commission for making unsubstantiated claims on Hylexin. While this doesn’t necessarily mean the product doesn’t work, it certainly makes us suspicious. Without more information, we’d hesitate to plunk down a hundred bucks for this stuff.

The Brains Bottom Line:
We wish there was an easy answer for you but we can’t find clear evidence that any product will work for sure. A Vitamin K product, like Vita-K, may be worth a try but don’t spend a ton of money.

I have tried Vitamin K specifically for dark circles but to no avail, it did not work either. I was considering Hylexin but is out of my budget for something we do not know works. I am at my wits end, make-up seems to exagerate the problem. I started with the dark circles after my son was born, that is now 20 years ago, and was told by an Ears, Nose and Throat physician it was allergies, but no solution!

Hope someone comes up with something soon that works it is making me feel and look older than I am!!!

I’ve always been told that, barring lack of sleep, the cause of serious dark circles under the eyes is about 95% genetic. Look at your mother and other relatives; if they have dark circles, odds are, so will you. A good, moisturizing concealer, applied very gently to dampened skin works quite well. To make it last, apply a sheer face powder afterwards. Avoid sparkly or metallic eye shadows, and do not mascara the lower lashes.

I just bought this product off of e-bay and i will let you know if it really works because i am 34 years old and look 50 because of my dark circles, i have tried every product on the market for them and tis is my last resort, lets keep our fingers crossed..

yes i really do think that Hylexin works, it is definitely the best product that i have tried for this problem. Only catch is that you have to keep using it, but in it’s defence a tube will last you about 6-8 months.
Please beware of some of the Hylexin on Ebay as there are some fake batches currently on. If in doubt you’ll get a good deal on Hylexin on strawberry.net.

Yes Hylexin works, I used it for 5 month and it gave me a great result. For years I had to use concealer under my eyes. I tried all sorts of products with vit k and others but they never worked. Hylexin works, it gives results from the first weeks of using it.

I’ve been using Hylexin for over a month and see results!! I can’t believe the improvement. I have been getting comments like, “You look good, is your hair different.” Yesterday, my coworker asked me if I was doing my eye make up differently. I’ve always had dark circles under my eyes, even as a child. They didn’t really bother me until this year because they seemed to be getting worse..I’m 34 now. They are not gone but they are definitely better. I have been reading different forums on Hylexin and this is my first time posting a review. I understand that some people are skeptical but I thought I’d share my experience.

I have been told that (don’t laugh!) Preparation H (the cream, not the ointment) works wonders. Because it shrinks the capillaries. I don’t know if this really works but thought I would put the suggestion out here. Certainly cheaper by far.

All eye creams seem to come in tiny .5oz / 15ml containers – which is a waste of money…i like the Made from Earth Olive Night creme because its a large 2 ounce container and has worked WONDERS under my eyes and wrinkles on the sides of my face.

I really enjoy the Olive Night creme – I use it as an under eye cream as recommended by their website. My routine has been putting some of the cream along my lower lid and then gently rubing under my eyes before i go to bed at night. The cream stays put, and doesn’t get into my eyes. It also doesn’t have any fumes or aromas to make my eyes water since it is organic and chemical free. I’m the one whose eyes will tear if our cat wanders next to me and rubs my shoulder, so my eyes are generally rather sensitive.

I use this each morning and evening. I really can tell the difference, that my eyes look less tired, that the skin looks more healthy. And really, it makes sense. All skin needs moisture to stay healthy. That skin beneath and around your eyes is extremely thin, so if any skin on your body is going to show dehydration first, it would be your eyes. People look at your eyes all the time when they talk to you, so they notice that pretty quickly.

The downside of course is that eye cream is rather pricey – but again, for the above reasons, I don’t think it’s as bad as it might seem at first. You use tiny amounts. The cream is specially formulated to be safe for use near your eyes, and to be light enough to absorb into that delicate skin. You really DO need to take care of that skin area in a special way, since the skin is so delicate. And it’s well worth it to do that, since people who talk to you are generally looking at your face and your eyes when they do so.

I tend to be frugal, but this is one of the areas where I think taking good care of yourself is worth it in the long run. I bought from the website because I believe they only have stores in London and New York – highly recommended for healthy women looking for an under eye with proven results!

I never realized how much of a problem my dark circle were, until my co-workers on a daily basis continued to ask me if I was getting enough sleep. I immediatly tried to remedy the problem, by buying cream and gel treatments. they would give me the immediate results, but never long lasting.
Trying to figure out what to do. I began to stare at old college pictures of myself and began to realize what my problem really was. I did not take care of myslef as I once did. During my late teens and early twenties, I had plenty of time to pamper myself. Facials and those old wives remedies were done on a daily basis. Now that I am older with my own family, I never have the time. That is one of the reasons my skin and skincare have gaps that cause dark circle and other facial imperfections.
Once, I realized I had to stop spending money on make-up products and save for the babies’ future, I knew the only thing I had was time. I decided to take time on myself, because money was just too tight to spend so much every 3 months. I began to use the cucumbers in the morning and the green tea bags before going to bed. I took time to give my self facials and would pay close attention to the small things. I even had my children rub ice on my eyes and face(mainly because their touch is so gentle)when they wanted to play and I needed to relax. I saved money on concealer. I just make sure I keep sunscreen, sunglasses and supplements for every season. It took longer that most people would wait for results, but in the end, I look younger and feel more vibrant.
It is not always about the product, sometimes its just about the time someone takes for themselves to look and feel better.
I really hope this works for someone, because it has does wonders for me. How I know it works: I had a gentlemen ask me for I.D., when I went and had drinks with my girlfriends, recently!

I have used many products, including gelatin over the dark circles that I have. NOTHING WORKED TILL Hylexin!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have used it for four days, and already there is a 90% improvement. I have very fair skin and dark circles under my eyes. Granted there is still a bit darkening under the eye. Bot nothing like before. I purchased 2 tubes off ebay. I am addicted!
