The Danger of Using Clay Facial Masks

Jessica’s Masquerade:
Do clay masks of any sort actually benefit the skin in any way?

The Left mask.jpgBrain’s Lateral Thinking:

Your question is a bit broad, Jessica, so here’s an equally broad answer:

Clay masks contain oil absorbing ingredients, like kaolin, that can dry out your skin. So, if your skin is very oily you can benefit from using these products on an occassional basis. However, because they can be so drying, they can also irritate and damage your skin if you use them too frequently. In reality, using a good cleanser will give you the same benefit without the risk of overdrying. But the magic of the mask is the tightening, tingling feeling you get that makes you think it’s doing much more.
