I have used a product with 2% Lidocaine that worked wonders for preventing ingrown hairs. I am partially latina and God knows how much thicker my hair can be. After epilating (shaving/ waxing) you apply a thin layer 1/2 times a day for first 2 days then to not use too much, I would reapply 4 days later, when hair was starting to grow back. Last I saw it was around 6$ for a tube half the size of a reg toothpaste tube but if used sparingly it can last several months for bikini/ problem areas.

This product does NOT work. I've followed the instructions perfectly on 3 different occasions, and i've never felt a difference in waxing pain. It is also hard to get the gel off, so it makes it harder to wax with oily skin.

Actually, I use over the counter benzocaine based products such as Anbesol and Kanka-A to numb my face before my IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments, and let me tell you: They work! And how!
