Custom Perfume Technology Puts The Wow In Your Wedding

by thebeautybrains on December 20, 2006 · 7 comments

The Beauty Brains are always on the lookout for products that find ways to use new technology and here`s a perfume that uses the technology of the internet to make your wedding day unforgettable.

wedding vow fragranceIt`s called Vow Fragrance, and it`s designed exclusively for new brides by Richard Newton, a wedding planner and former fragrance executive. Unlike regular perfumes, Vow will completely change each year. So if you`re a blushing bride in 2007 your scent will be different than anyone who bought Vow in 2006. Here`s how Vow describes it:

Uniquely romantic, sensual and unforgettable, Vow 2006 is the first, ever vintage fragrance, created just for you; for your day, your year, your wedding memories- and only for 2006. What a clever way to personalize your wedding experience!

But what if you LOVE your fragrance and you want to buy more after years of marital bliss? That`s where the technology comes in: brides will be able to purchase their year online by using a private code card that comes with every bottle. It`s a great example of how science can revolutionize cosmetic products and how we shop for them.

how is this an example of science or technology revolutionizing cosmetic products? it’s exactly the kind of lame marketing techniques you guys blast on a daily basis. i have to say, i’m kind of disappointed that you guys would do a post like this, you always seem to be above this kind of blatant marketing hype.

did they give you free stuff?

sorry if this sounds harsh, i’m just a big fan of the blog and was saddened to see this post.

Thanks for the comment MG, I have to agree. This post is lame Right Brain. This looks like just another blatant attempt by a fragrance marketing company to sell us the same stuff with a different story. Now, if they customized the fragrance to match our genetic fingerprint or something that might be news but this? This is the kind of thing I might expect from Sara Bellum but not you, Right. Say it ain’t so.

Incidentally, what did you do with all the free stuff they gave you?

MG,
Thanks for being a regular reader – without people like you this blog wouldn’t be possible. While the Left Brain and I may argue from time to time we do agree on one thing: we’re here to educate our readers on cosmetic science.

Most of the time we focus on answering your questions on how products work and debunking myths behind all the advertsing BS. But occasionally we’ll write a light hearted post about an old cosmetic ad or a cool new product that we find. Today’s post is just that.

I think the idea of using Internet technology to create a personalized fragrance experience is a clever use of computer science. Is it marketing hype? Absolutely! But that’s different than the kind of marketing hype that lies to you about how a product will work on your hair and skin. We would NEVER support that kind of misleading advertising.

So I’m really sorry if I dissappointed you or any of our other readers but keep reading and hopefully you’ll like most of what the Left Brain and I have to say.

Oh, and by the way, I sold the free stuff they gave me on Ebay and used the money to buy Christmas presents! :)

I think this would be cooler if you told them for ex. your favorite flowers and general theme of the wedding and then they’d create an exclusive fragrance for you to match the wedding. If your wedding party was going to be dressed in a tea rose color and the church decorated with lillies, they’d make a tea rose and lilly fragrance.

But if it is one fragrance for everyone for a year, then it is pretty lame, I have to agree.

I chuckled when I saw this post. I give the Vow fragrance creators credit for cashing in on the fact that anything geared to brides is generally a good rainmaker. As much as the Wedding-Industrial Complex bewilders me, I’m all for anyone making a buck!

Your article incorrectly states that Richard Newton is the creator of Vow Fragrance. It is actually Alix Miral.
I bought Vow 2007 for my wedding in October of 2007. It is a beautiful and very unique fragrance. I wear it now and again for special occasions and it reminds me of my special day.
