Hi - I'm giving a follow-up. Thanks to Peggy and everyone's input and taking hair color so seriously. I also don't want to be gray just yet so i'm still opting for a high/low foil off my scalp. I had it done 3 days ago without the color and on a scale of 1-10, it's a 2 compared to the 15 from my prior hair color. The color is way off what I want but I hoping I'm stopping the damage in my blood stream from all the problems I had 6 weeks ago. If you are reading this and going nuts, try the scalapini liquid at cvs is helpful short of putting a tube of hydrocortisone on your head and taking benedryll which I've done. I found a website I'd like to share that has a database of products containing specific chemicals. http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com - I personally am going to see out some safer chemicals for my hair and body. Good luck to everyone.

I have been having my roots colored for the past 15 years. The last 4-6 years my head started itching (stylist used the Sweet and Low packets) and has now progressed to burning too after having my hair colored. The itching and just all over strange feeling on my head never goes away. I have also lost a ton of hair. I kept mentioning the hair loss to my hairdresser and I think she has thought I am crazy. I have researched hair dye allergies and now realize I have developed them. I am not sure what chemical I am allergic to, but am seeing a dermatologist in a few weeks. I found a company that produces hair dye that does not have as many harsh chemicals in it (Eco Colors). My stylist purchased some of it and did my hair yesterday. I had no itching or burning, but today it is itching again. I don't know if it is just my usual itching, or from the new hair color. I have read where if you develop allergies to hair dye, you can become cross sensitized to other chemicals. I feel very fortunate that I have not had severe reactions as some people have, but now know that they could happen if I keep using the hair dyes. I really do not want gray hair, but also don't want all of my hair to fall out or be in misery the rest of my life (I am 59). To the guy in California who owns the salon....you had better be careful. These allergies are serious and can progress to worse symptoms over time. I don't think hairdressers are really taught the dangers of using hair dye. If it does this to our heads, I wonder what it is doing to the poor sylists who use this on people every day. I cannot believe our government lets companies sell the hair dyes when you read the chemicals and their dangers that are in all of the permanent dyes. Some of the chemicals say not to touch them without gloves (on gov't. website) and here they put it all over our scalps for 20-30 min. By the way, I am just an almost 60 year old grandmother with no bones to pick with the hair industry.....I just really don't want gray hair, but am realizing that is just what I may have to do. Good luck to all of you....we had better all take this seriously. If you start doing research on this topic, you will be utterly shocked by the stories you will read.

I have had a burning itchy scalp for four years and have hair loss, it all started when I got my hair dyed at a salon at first I thought maybe they had left the dye on too long but it just kept getting worse so i figures I'd just stop dying my hair and let my hair go gray as long as the burning and itching would go away (that was 4 yrs ago) . But I still have the problem and my hair has thinned considerably. I've been to 4 different doctor's but not one of them has a clue as to how to cure this. I've been taking Omega 3 and anything else i can get my hands on to take care of this but so far nothing has help. I am now leaving it in God's hands which i should have done long ago....I will pray for all of you too.

I have been colouring my hair myself for quite a while now and in the last approx 6 months my scalp has been itchy and flaky. Its been that bad that I have seen my GP who did two lots of blood tests, one in particular was for thyroid. All the blood test came back negative, I am fit and healthy. My GP just told me to use a good anti-dandruff shampoo. I have been using Head & Shoulders, it has got slightly better but I am going to try a different anti-dandruff shampoo. On one website it suggests taking Omega 3 vitamins as well as something else, I am going to try doing this and see if it gets any better.
