I have to disagree that this is 'just water'. Tap water can cause havoc with skin if it's sensitive or you live in a hard water area. Tap water is more alkaline (so it doesn't corrode the pipes) which upsets the ph balance of the skin, if it's hard water it also contains more minerals which can leave the skin dry and irritated. If you don't have sensitive skin, then yes it's probably a waste of money and no more beneficial than water in a spray bottle, but it's a great product for those who need it. I'm not sure how you can say it is no different than spraying tap water on your face, when you have not mentioned any knowledge of how it differs chemically from tap water or the negative effects of these chemicals / minerals on the skin.

I also disagree with the implication that Avene are somehow misleading consumers into buying a 'spray moisturiser'. They don't call it a moisturiser or claim it replaces a moisturiser, and it says on the can that it is thermal 'water'. If it had other ingredients in, it would be pointless. There are many other products out there like moisturisers, serums etc, and its value is in it being simple water, and just that, for sensitive skin :)

As a former skeptic, I have to say this isn't just regular water, although I'd rather recommend La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water instead of Avene. La Roche product is loaded with anti-oxidant selene (which Avene doesn't contain), as well as magnesium, calcium, silica and zinc. It soothes, heals and moisturizes. Honestly, I felt like and idiot paying for a mere 150ml bottle of WATER, but after a week I started to see a noticeable improvement of my capricious complexion - and now I'm a total convert!

THERMAL water is NOT tap water. for instance the one i use from the Herculane Thermal Spring contains Ca (calcium), Mg (magnesium), Fe (iron), Mn (mangane), Zn (zinc), Cu and Al (alumminium) i hope i got their names right. after i get out of the showe the skin on my face is dry and flaky and reddish. after i sprintz on thermal water it stops being flaky and the reddness goes away. the skin is soft :) you should try it and see for yourself.

Acutally I bought a bottle of this stuff, and it works...

Honestly if you don't irritated skin, or the whether in your city is not "harsh", then I don't think you need it. It also depends on the type of water you have in your country. The water here is very "hard", so its drying.

Since I live in Canada, the winters are so drying. The moisturizer i use in the summer doens't work well enough, my skin is still flakey. ..I have combination skin , so its the worst!!!

So back to this thermal water. I was recommended by my hair dresser's wife because her daughter had acne and the avene line helped her.

Well Avene products are just so expensive, so I decided to buy the Thermal water which everyone was raving about at Makeupalley.com

I have used it for a few days now, and it has worked wonders!!! My face feels soft, no flakes, my acne is clearing (with the help of a little benzac which I have always been using but it is def. more effective now.) My skin is glowing. By saying it is just water, well it IS water, but it is a special source of water, and not tap water. Avene and La Roscha are the only brands that acutally given the "ok" by French Derm Ass. , neither Vichi nor Avien are.

I think with all the buzz about "water," we might have to write a post specifically about what water does in personal care products. Stay tuned! And thanks for all your comments, you gals are great!
