@ Ruth

I haven't suggested that everyone has the same problem and in one of my posts I even said "Of course, these tablets may not work for everyone because the source of their smell could be something else but it is worth trying"

However, I did dismiss the uniqueness of your problem because so many here have such similar symptoms and after reading, I can see that shampoo and / or topical treatments could / would be effective in your case.

Why am I still here?

Simple really, some people here many months ago tried to tell me that the issue that I described was very likely an internal one. I did not listen and dismissed their suggestions. I continued to try a multitude of specialist shampoos, sulfur, antibacterial soaps, natural deodorant sprays on my hair, bergamot oil hair dressing, coconut oil, and baking soda / soaps. I am not even going to mention how much money I spent on those.

Again, people suggested that those were only a temporary external solution to an internal problem but I still didn't listen. If those people only mentioned this once, when looking back through the archives, I probably wouldn't have even noticed it.

So if my frequent mention of this could save even one more person the expense and frustration that I suffered then it is worth while.

Your case is indeed completely different but if you take a look at what Koolaid wrote, it is almost a mirror of exactly what I went through.

After all, everyone is ultimately trying to find a solution and just imagine the level of excitement you would feel if everything you tried failed until one day you took one herbal pill, I bet you wouldn't be able to stop mentioning that either.

I also know how awful this problem is, my stinky hair could be smelt from very far away with people in the distance asking what the damp musty odor was or asking who hadn't washed properly etc. Others would wonder why you moved away from them thinking they had done something wrong when you were just worried of smelling bad.

I am glad you pointed out my posts because I did overlook your issue due to my own excitement and frustrations. I guess one can become blind to another s problem due to their own solution.

Hey Einstein, For whatever reason you are stuck on the idea that everybody here has the same cause for their hair issue, I'd like to suggest that it's ignorant way of thinking. I used an antibacterial shampoo and the issue is gone. You got that. It will stay gone unless I reinfect myself (you know what that means?), which I have accidentally done a few times. Every time that's happened, the antibacterial shampoo I used again worked. If what I had was a yeast problem, an antibacterial shampoo would make the yeast overgrow and make the problem worse. If it were an internal issue, the shampoo wouldn't have worked at all. I have had no smell at all since using that shampoo days agao.

So, I don't understand why you're even here at this point. You've spoken your, uh, mind and seem to have nothing more to add. For anybody who wants to try your solution and it works, you've done a good thing. I assure you it has nothing to do with what my problem was. Bacteria and yeast are two completely different issues. An internal problem and infected hair follicles are two different things. The way all of our issues manifest aren't even the same. We have different causes and I'm trying to offer a cure for those who have what I had. It works because the antimicrobial ingredient is key, it gets absorbed into the skin and kills the bacteria. It's science. Now if you want to stay on the train that feels that everybody's problems are caused by the candida craze, then keep believing your world is flat and leave people to explore what their problem actually is. I know how awful this problem is to people who have social lives and I have a cure so stop peddling your one trick pony cure.

Why are all of you guys still talking about shampoos?

The problem is internal, shampoos will never get rid of it for long, it will only treat the symptoms rather than the cause.

After thinking this over I believe I know why the discontinued shampoo Carmol works. One of the warnings on the active ingredient http://www.drugs.com/pro/sulfacetamide-topical.html is that it gets absorbed into the skin, which is why it works on acne (which is not a topical problem). Apparently, sulfacetamide gets absorbed, thereby reaching the hair follicle.

I also believe that different people here have different causes. I've never had a visible issue, only the smell. From having fungus on a toe once, which flaked and hurt, perhaps some who have visible issues as well have one of any number of fungal issues but I'm convinced that mine is bacterial. So, for anybody there who is as desperate as I to get rid of this, a cream with the active ingredient in the link about may help. If I ever accidentally recontaminate myself again that's what I'm trying.

Mine smells perhaps like... if you were to take an old funky piece of wood, char it and then leave it out to get rained on. It's not as acrid as that but has a hint of it, very heavy, musty odor and it feels like it's swarming around your head in a cloud. Maybe even like some smelly, oily mushroom in the woods. Hard to describe but totally disgusting. Imagine what our forefathers smelled like!

Good luck to all!!! I feel your pain.
