And now the moment you’ve been waiting for…the BS is statement #3 A man’s skin is 50% thicker than a woman’s.
As we all know, men and women are different. And science is learning just how different every single day. Here are explanations of this week’s Beauty Science or BS quiz.
Women’s and Men’s skin facts
1. Coffee can improve a man’s skin, but not a woman’s. This is Beauty Science. Scientists showed that applying caffeine to a man’s skin improves it’s ability to retain moisture.
2. A woman’s skin ages faster than a man’s. This is Beauty Science. Researchers discovered that women lose collagen faster than men. When skin has less collagen, it looks droopy and wrinkled.
3. A man’s skin is more prone to skin cancer than a woman’s. This is Beauty Science. It’s long been known that men get skin cancer at higher rates than women but this research shows it is because their skin is actually different.
4. A man’s skin is 50% thicker than a woman’s. This is NOT TRUE. On average a man’s skin is 20 – 30% thicker than a woman’s. This is because men have more collagen and elastin fibers in their skin. It also means they’ll get less wrinkles.
5. A woman’s skin is less oily than a man’s. This is Beauty Science. Men have more hair follicles which means they produce more oil on their skin.
