Christine`s also concerned about Rosacea: I have fairly bad rosacea, my cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin are always more pink than the rest of my face. If I drink alcohol or caffeine, or eat spicy foods, those areas become VERY red. I became excited when I saw that Aveeno came out with a moisturizer clinically proven to reduce the visibility of redness. Does this product work for rosacea, or is it just for people who have pink tones in their fair skin? The Right Brain`s red-faced reply:
As you know if you read our recent post on Rosacea, there are only a few drugs that have been proven to be effective in the reducing redness. The Aveeno product you referenced (the ULTRA-CALMING DAILY MOISTURIZER WITH SPF 15) doesn`t contain any of these drugs but it does include a combination of sunscreens that can prevent Rosacea prone skin from turning red in the first place. That doesn`t necessarily mean that it will help you, but it does address at least one of the causal factors of Rosacea so it may be worth a try. Let us know how it works for you!
Now, here’s a challenge for the Beauty Brains community: what does the picture in today’s post have to do with this topic? The first person to post a comment with the right answer wins!

Doesn’t oatmeal soothe skin? I don’t know why it does, but I know that oatmeal baths are recommended for people with chicken pox, and that a lot of Aveeno products are marketed as containing oatmeal.
Aveeno is quite close to “avena” (in Spanish ans G_d knows how many other Latin-derived languages) which in turn, means oatmeal. I wouldn’t be surprised if its part of the scientific name too.
Yesss! The scientific name for oats is Avena Sativa.
Oatmeal has the same soothing qualties as aveeno has
We have a winner! Moxiehart (I love that screen name!) was the first to post the answer we were looking for – the bowl of oatmeal in the picture represents the key featured ingredient in Aveeno. Yay Moxie! We don’t have a prize for you right now but we’ll see what we can do in the future. (We’re thinking about opening a Brain’s store in the near future!).
Yay, I won! Thanks re: my screen name.
I love this website, BtW. I read a favorable article about your site in Bitch magazine & I’m addicted.
ive tried the aveeno ultra calming mosturizer with spf15 for my rosacea and it made it worse…what i do now is i pour some of the aveeno baby bath powder into a tiny cup with little bit of water and put it as a face mask leave it on for like two minutes then get in the shower and and wash my face last, wait for my face to get well dry then apply a tiny bit of aveeno baby moisturizer because the aveeno powder can make your face dry and it works very good for me….one advice never ever!!!!! put steroid cream on ur face and go out in the sun that really made me break out my face was so bad i was on doryx 150mg a day for a month now on oracea 40mg my derm told me to take it for two months you just have to have a lot of patience because it takes a while to clear up.
I have been suffering with the occasional redness on my face for a couple of years. My face would look like it was sunburned. I had to cover up with lots of heavy makeup and it felt awful. Finally made the appointment to see my doctor when I couldn’t stand it anymore.
The doctor gave me 2 different perscriptions for gels and ointments. They seemed to work but it took weeks to see any results and my face still had to be covered with makeup to hide the redness. I bought Shielo’s Complexion Moisturizer after reading some of the reviews and decided this would be cheaper than another doctor visit plus the cost of more of the same expensive creams. I gave it a shot.
Boy, was I surprised. The burning stopped with the very first application and the redness was greatly reduced overnight. I no longer have the dryness that the other ointments caused.
After just 2 or 3 days, my face was back to normal and even my husband was amazed at the quick improvement. Keeping it on hand for flare ups.
I heard shielo is good too! I havnt tried them though – but here is my situation:
I don’t have servere rosacea , but i used to have alot of redness on my face. I was happy with Made from Earth’s Rosehip + Hibiscus Face Serum (its for rosacea) and after 1 month of using it, it reduce a lot of my redness and even got rid of some breakouts. It doesnt dry up your skin. . . cause you need that moisture to maintain a balance.
Just do not use alot of the product. Only a little is needed to calm down your skin.
