It turns out, it’s not just you. According to this study done by researchers at the University of Missouri-Columbia women of
all shapes and sizes feel bad when they see pictures of attractive models.
In this study, 81 women were asked questions about themselves and how they felt about their bodies. Then subgroups were made to look at either average looking people or models in magazines. Not surprisingly, the women who looked at the models reported lower scores than the ones who didn’t. But the interesting thing was that all women, no matter what they looked like, reported a drop in self satisfaction after seeing pictures of models. It had been previously believed that women with lower self body images would be particularly susceptible to the model effect, but in reality all women were.
So, the Beauty Brains bottom line is that if you really want to feel more beautiful and better about yourself, get rid of those magazines, stop watching tv and go take a class at Curves. And see this previous post about how they really make people in the media look good.

Definitely true. However, most of the women I know (including myself) are a lot prettier than the model you put in the picture. That pic should have a caption that says: “when skinny goes wrong, starving children in the catwalk.”
I think she looks like an anorexic space alien.
So sad. Maybe it should be captioned Beautiful Bones?
i love that y’all mentioned my alma mater!
Sarah, my hubby said the exact same thing when I showed him the picture, lol! This was followed by “someone should give this kid a hamburger”.
LoL, I’d only be jealous if they looked like Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, and Iman. This new crop of alien bobbleheads does nothing for me.
