Jenn’s Gem: Is it true that hanging your head over the bed for five minutes a day helps hair grow faster because of the blood rushing to your head? The Left Brain’s response:
Sorry Jenn, but that’s a myth. All that will help you grow is a headache! Hair growth isn’t just about blood circulation. It has to do with the chemistry of what goes on in your folicles, the tiny tubes beneath the scalp where the roots of the hair are. There are some drugs that can affect medical causes of hair growth – if you want to learn more, you can read our previous post on hair growth products. You can also read about how to make your hair longer by reducing breakage and splitting.

I have written several articles on the myths associated with hair growth, especially those that pertain to women of color and “ethnic” hair. Isn’t it amazing that people still buy into such far flung misinformation?
I just LOVE this blog! Keep up the good work!
I am from Africa, Nigeria to be precised. I have a long hair right from my childhood and I still maintained its long and bouncing black hair till date. Needless to say, I am into my early forties.
It will surprise you to know and believe that, I use real enginess oil mixed with lanolin hair cream when I was in the secondary school, and frankly speaking, you can’t but behold how glossy, long and black the hair looks.
Post marital took all that away from me, and for some years, I indulge in using all sorts of products (turn chemicals) on my hair and I notice is breaking, especially at the backof the head. Just about 2 months ago, I re-traced my step and went back to the days of old.
I can confidently say, that my hair is coming back, though, it is still long, the breaking I had been expericing since has stopped through the fruits remedies I learnt from here and coupled with my own known therapy that I applied.
The engine oil, the purified one is very good. I have tested and come to trust is as a healing therapy for golssy bouncing hair.
