Oh now come on, this just doesn’t sound right. I saw this article about a new technology for lunch hour boob jobs and was simultaneously intrigued, disturbed, and skeptical. One hour for bigger breasts? Really?

According to the article a company called Cytori Therapeutics says they have a stem-cellboobs based technology that can actually super-charge your fat cells and fill in breast volume. The way it works is this. First, fat is taken from the patient’s butt or stomach via liposuction. Then stem cells from the fat are isolated and put into a small cartridge. This is then injected into the breasts. The whole procedure takes a little over an hour. Then during the next 6 months the stem cells grow and somehow make the breasts get larger. Clinical trials are reportedly under way and the process has already been approved in Germany. This sounds very similar to a breast technology we discussed last year.

Brains are skeptical

The thing that gets my skeptical senses going is that this wasn’t published in any of the typical science wires that the Beauty Brains frequent. The story cites Chemistry and Industry magazine as their source. This is a less-scientific source than journals like Science or Nature or The New England Journal of Medicine where you might expect a big story like this to break. Chemistry and Industry Magazine tends to hype technologies without solid science to back it up.

So, I looked into Cytori Therapeutics. They’re based in California (of course, the world capital of boob jobs) and they call the technology the Celution System. Med Gadget did a report on the Celution technology last year and said it had not yet been proven to work. But this report from the BBC indicates a 19 person trial conducted in Japan showed it basically worked with no major side effects. That’s a small number but encouraging. More testing is needed.

The Beauty Brains bottom line:

Interesting and it may actually work. It won’t be available for another couple years but can you imagine, new breasts in under an hour with no cutting? How many in the Beauty Brains community would sign up for that?

    Count me OUT!!

  2. Susan Says:

Yuck! Why do women think big boobs are soooo attractive? I think they are so ugly. I would rather be flat than have huge boobs.

  3. Paula Says:

As someone who doesn’t fill out a 32A at 35 years old, I’d love to do this if it were safe. A B cup would be a major change for me, but the AVERAGE size in the US is 36C. In my experiencem women who say boobs aren’t attractive are the ones who HAVE them.

  4. Michelle Says:

I would be the first to sign up!!

  5. Alana Says:

I personally have contemplated breast augmentation for a while now. At 16 I was a 36C, I got pregnant ballooned to a 36DD. At 30 now I am a 34B-. If there were a safer way without compromising my body I would definitely go for it. But, like with new technology I wouldn’t go for the first generation of it. I would wait a while until they tweaked it just right.

  6. Susan Says:

I am the second poster. So I have had very small boobs and very large ones now. I very much prefur the smaller ones. I was only a 32 B when I was 22 yrs old and with each child. (I had only 3) I grew bigger. Now I am 38 DD or DDD. One of the problems is I cannot for the life of me find a bra that fits or is comfortable. I never had any problems at all when they were small. Now with the weight they are heavy and finding a bra that fits is impossable and they cost a lot. I would give anything to be small again.

  7. Fabulously Broke Says:

I think I like my smaller boobs, because then my back doesn’t ache as much.. but I don’t fill out as well in cute body hugging tops.. but then again I dont want to be bigger everywhere else as well…

we’ll see! I’d rather improve skin tone

  8. Wandamarie Maben Says:

I think I’ll stick with my 34 B …thank you. I am 50, when I was 35 I gained 50 pounds. It took me 2 years to lose the weight on just watching what I ate…yet I was a 34 A before I gained the weight. After I lost the 50 pounds I had 34 B ..full cup breasts. People asked me if I had a boob job as I was 128 pounds again (5′4″ and petite). I think you need to look at the size of your frame and height before increasing the size of your breasts, as you may never see your waist or feet again. I say if others don’t like then …then don’t look at them.

  9. Wandamarie Maben Says:

    I agree with Fabulously Broke

  10. Dakota Says:

Bigger boobs are uncomfortable and from a health standpoint, I would think cause more problems that make it not worth it to have them.

When I was nursing,(a long time ago) I couldn’t even sleep comfortably. No sleeping on the stomach allowed with big boobs unless you want to develop a dowagers back!

Also, they just get in the way if you want to be physically active. Sure guys love ‘em but they are not the ones carrying them like 2 extra suitcases everyday.

Somewhere I once heard that the perfect definition of the size of a woman’s breasts were that one could fit perfectly in a champagne glass. (I think that was something Napoleon came up with and it became an urban legend sort of)

  11. Lynda Says:

Well I’m all for something safe. Not everyone is looking to be bigger, maybe even. I have a friend who has to stuff one side too look even and has always been self conscious about it. I think this would be a great benifit for someone like her.

  12. Maggie S. Says:

I’d like to get a reduction (from 38DDD) so clothes will fit me better, but I’ve heard that the surgery to reduce breast size is riskier than getting implants; the nipple has to be cut off and it may not reattach properly :-(

  13. arlene Says:

What a hoot, I love the picture of the gal drinking the liquid, with the BIG boobs. Think I will print it and show it my husband, it will make his day.. Made mine.

  14. Linh Says:

I like the sound of this, but is there a way to control the…growth? I’d just like to upgrade to a full B cup at most. I’m not looking for anything bigger.

  15. Cathy Says:

No cure for cancer, but we’ve got this now? I’m pretty unimpressed. I work with a New York plastic surgeon who’s currently participating in the FDA’s latest implant study, performing breast enlargement in Long Island using silicone implants, commonly known as “gummy bears.” The FDA approval I think means a lot, it means that the implants available from reputable doctors have undergone a bunch of testing and they’re safe. Count me out on injected boobs anytime soon.

  16. Jackie Says:

I have tried just about everything there is to get bigger breasts without surgery and am happy to report that I have finally found one. It’s called Latavi. You get a free months supply when you start which consist of a bottle of pills and a bottle of cream. I started out as a 32NA (which is nearly A for anyone not familiar with half sizes) which is pretty pathetic. After using my free month I am almost a Bcup! I had to take the padding out of an Acup to get it too fit! I can’t wait until I can afford to buy some more! It’s $90 for a month supply which is a little pricey for me but well worth it now that I know how good it works! It recommends that you take it for 6 months to see full results but I think that I will have to stop before then since I think that a C is the perfect size. I hope this helps some of you ladies that are feeling just as hopeless as I was!

  17. thebeautybrains Says:

I wouldn’t waste my money on supplements. They make drug claims but are not regulated by the FDA or anyone. Nothing that supplement manufacturers say can be believed.

Jackie’s anecdotal evidence aside, there is no proof that a supplement will increase breast size. And if it did, it would be a drug that you’d need a prescription for. You’re much safer to stay away from Latavi.

  18. becca Says:

I’ve actually heard more men say that they would rather have the “perfect handle” rather then massive boobs.
and I would also rather be flat then have back breaking breasts. but this is coming from someone who is a 36C.

  19. me Says:

I was wondering if this technology can be transfered to other “augmentations” say….LIPS??????????

    Beauty Brains??? Anyone???

  20. thebeautybrains Says:

The lips are a bit different than breast tissue so I don’t think the same technology would work, but maybe. That would still be a number of years off.

  21. Ruqayya Says:

I’m a woman that has the same “lopside issue” that another poster here mentioned her friend having. My right breast is about a half cup size smaller than my right. I have to stuff my right bra cup…. but even then it’s still somewhat noticable. Going without a bra, despite the fact that I have relatively perky boobies, is not an attractive look for me. (I’m a 34 band size with a full C on the left.) Some clothes don’t fit well and have to be altered on the smaller side…..

Fat injections from my own body would be thought… On the other hand, it’s still a new procedure and no serious long-term tests have been done. Like someone here mentioned, I wonder if the growth rate can somehow be predicted.

  22. Kimberly Says:

I don’t know.. I am 44, small chested. Never really thought about having more until the craze of implants. The risk of anesthesiology scares me more than the implants. I see the young girls with them & think Oh… I might like that… but the rest of me is in tact & I say why take the chance now??? As I age it’s a catch 22… I want to be attractive but at what cost?? I just need to keep hitting the gym & use my wrinkle fighting serum.

  23. Emma Says:

I was just browsing through this site, and thought after reading the comments that I would add my own.
I had breast implants 5 Years ago taking my non existant breasts to a 34 D after having breast fed 3 children.
I can honestly say its the best thing i hav ever done as it has made me feel like a normal woman, where as before i felt very inadequate and self conscious.
I am 5ft 11″ and therefore felt my flat chest looked even worse on such a large frame.
    Ive never looked back :)

  24. Mandy Says:

I’m not a doctor, but i work with one here in Kahului. We see lots of women, some from the islands and some from the mainland (on vacation) for everything from breast augmentation in Hawaii to breast reduction. I’d like to start off by saying something to some of the women and that posted here, expressing concerns about breast reduction (Susan and Maggie). Yes, sometimes the nipple must be removed and repositioned higher on the breast, but this is the exception, not the rule. As far as breast enlargement, yes, it’s often about symmetry. No, your result should not be “back breaking breasts.” Some women, I suppose want breasts much larger than their frame can optimally support, but a good breast enlargement performed by a caring and qualified plastic surgeon should not result in breasts that are too large for your frame. Anyway, I don’t know about this injection, but I agree with Alana. My dad was a car salesman and once told me to never buy the first year model; let them work the kinks out. I’ve never forgotten that, so yes, I probably wouldn’t rush out to be the first in line for this procedure, when (if) it’s approved someday.

  25. paula Says:

I’am 42 and want my boobs back!!! If I had the chance I would have surgery. Not to make them bigger but to put them back where they use to be. I would have the injections. I don’t want implants per-say but if that was the only way I could have my breasts fit into a bra then I would have to say yes.

  26. me2 Says:

    O.o i would do it

  27. Dina Says:

I have thought about augmentation but if this technology was proven i would probably prefer it. I know its definitely a matter of personal opinion, but I love the look of really large breasts. My inspiration is the model Denise Milani: I would love to have her size breasts, or even a little bigger.

  28. LipstickFace Says:

Does no one care about the part where it says “during the next 6 months the stem cells grow and somehow make the breasts get larger”? Am I the only one picturing boobs getting bigger and bigger and bigger and needing to be wheeled around in a wheelbarrow and then filling the room and then punching a wall out and there’s a shocked neighbor in the shower, frightened by your mammoth mammaries, and here comes the fire truck, and firemen with axes are shouting through bullhorns for people to step away from your boobies, and for people to grab their children and to run, run away, as fast as they can? How’s anyone know when the growth will stop, and whether it’ll stop at a pleasing size, or at a grotesque size, like in the photo? And if it’s grotesque, then what will you do? Marry Kid Rock and try to capitalize on them suckers? I see too many people going “I can’t wait!” without having put any thought into it. Haven’t you seen the grisly photos of Tara Reid’s Frankenboobs? Are you really in such a hurry to risk maiming yourselves, perhaps permanently, when you have soooo little data?

  30. Noelle Says:

Oh, jeez. Doesn’t this remind you of the really old days when women injected liquid silicone right into their boobs? Remember Carol Doda? As I recall, that didn’t work out too well for most women.

My input? Get a board certified plastic surgeon and go in for a consultation. Most, like the Michigan doctor I work with who offers breast enlargement in Detroit give thorough consultations for a reasonable price. And most offer financing if you really really want the surgery but can’t come up with the cash.

    Play it safe.

  31. Unfortunately Unsymmetrical Says:

I think this would be a great technology (Of course, if it were proven safe) for people that possible have problems that have left them unsymmetrical. I was born with Poland’s Syndrome and unfortunately, while doctors told my parents that I would fill out by the time I developed breasts, I never did. On the left side I am a full 32D and on the right I am virtually an A. Having to never be able to wear a bathing suit and the mere fear of being intimate with a guy frightens me. I feel like an invasive procedure like breast augmentation isn’t for me, but possibly this new technology could be something that would aid in my desire to be a little more towards the symmetrical side… Who knows.

  32. mattetna Says:

I think this article raises interesting questions of the physical limits of how we define ourselves. Over the centuries, we’ve always done things to alter the natural state of our bodies. I work in the elective healthcare field, with clients such as Santa Rosa breast lift surgeons and believe me, I’d be unemployed if the obsession with perfection ever died out. But more importantly, I wonder how far our body modification plans can go before we’re completely unrecognizable to ourselves? If we juiced up our brains as well as our breasts (or instead of), at what point do we change our essential humanity? It sure is a brave new world out there these days.

  33. Jekka Says:

I have a small chest (small 32 B), and I love them. When I was younger I thought I wanted them bigger, but when I really got to thinking, I realized that they are the size they are for a reason! Any larger and I would look like a freak! I have a small frame, and I guess on a larger frame, they would look like nothing, but they are perfect on my size body. And in my experience, people with larger frames have bigger boobs, and smaller frames have smaller ones. If people stop obsessing about a letter and start noticing portions, most people would realize that theirs are just right for them! Be happy with what you got and love your body for exactly how it was made! The human body is a magnificent creation beyond anything we can understand, and I think it deserves to be held with the highest respect!

  34. Growl... Says:

uhm…boobs are boobs…that’s just that. It’s understandable if you’d like to move from a 32 to a 38, but…from size A to D. You should love your boobies…as weird as that sounded.

  35. Johnathon Says:

As a guy i can honestly say that though many guys do like bigger boobs thats just a stereotype. most guys would prefer a b or c cup as oppose to dd or ddd. you should be proud of who you are no matter what size or shape you are. the only reason breast augmentation should be used is for evening out. that i can undertand.

  36. Suzzanne Says:

I watched my neighbor try to get around with breasts that were larger than DD’s . She did not get around too well as she reached 50 years of age . She had always walked around with a walker because her posture was shot ! I am a transexual that would not want them that big . A single D would be more than enough for me . A D on a transexual is about the equivalent of a C on a genetic girl .

  37. Suzzanne Says:

With this type of procedure, can the size of ones breast size be contolled ?I wouldn’t want mine the size of porn stars ! I would be happy being a 42D . A D on a male is the equivalent of a C on a biological woman !Being 5′10”with 43-29-40 measurements , a D would be large enough for me!
