[...] The Right Brain understands tans: It’s not surprising that the Jergens product isn’t giving you a great new tan. It has very low levels of DHA (the active ingredient that stains your skin) so you really won’t get a dark change in color. Neutrogena’s Micro Mist spray product contains more DHA so you might try that. (Read our previous posts to learn more about sunless tanning.) [...]

I've had done it less than five times at a major tanning chain where no protection has been talked about or offered. It has made me very uptight each time. The process itself is a little unnerving but what I've disliked the most is the mist that lingers in the air. It is very thick and heavy, even when the spraying stops after one minute. I find it very hard not to breath in the fumes.
Thanks for answering this question, Beauty Brains. I'm officially done with it!

There is no way it is safe. I went once and only once and thought I was going to die.

I have very mild asthma - they asked me if I had asthma when I went in and I said yes. I went in the booth, held my breath and then it sprayed me - I turned around and took another breath before they sprayed the second round and once I inhaled the mist I started choking instantly.

I was bent over gasping for air while the spray kept going and sprayed me in the bent over position - needless to say - my tan wasn't even remotely even after that and I jumped out and started wiping myself frantically and I still had the worlds most awful tan lines. My forehead was black and the rest of my face and neck was white.

It took a while for me to start breathing again - it was seriously terrifying, the effect was instant.

I don't ever get asthma attacks - I don't even have an inhaler - I have never had an attack except in the tanning booth. I'm not even sure if it was an attack or that I just stopped breathing.

If it does something to a persons lungs with asthma - I'm assuming it isn't great for anyone if they have asthma or not.
