Are Magnets in Cosmetics Attracting?

Coming out today in Elle Magazine’s October issue is a story about magnets and their use in beauty care products. They ask the question, are magnets a modern miracle or age-oldElle magazine magnet therapy malarkey?

It’s a pretty good article and I recommend you take a look at it. I was shocked by this bit of information. Did you know that Americans spend up to $500 million a year on magnetized wellness products? This just seems ridiculous. Don’t people know that magnets in health and beauty products are pretty much a scam? We’ve recently discussed the use of magnets in Giovanni haircare products. But the bottom line is that the vast amount of evidence on static magnets shows that they have no effect on your body.

The article does point out a variety of magnetic technologies that are useful in the medical field such as MRI (Magnetic resonance imaging) machines, iTMS (Transcrenial Magnetic Stimulation) and PST (Pulsed Signal Therapy). These are much stronger magnetic fields than you can get in any cosmetic or beauty product with “magnets” in them.

The following companies have launched magnetic personal care products and must really think consumers are rubes. The savvy Beauty Brain wouldn’t waste her money on either Reveal and Restore Masque by Annum 21 or The Eye Concentrate by La Mer.

Imagine, you get to pay $160 to be duped by the La Mer product. Not surprisingly, the representatives at La Mer would not release their in-house studies that prove their claims. It’s really an embarrassment that they would market such a product.

The article ends with a suggestion that maybe there is more to this magnet thing than we know. Certainly, science doesn’t know everything about magnets. But what the Beauty Brains know is that based on the best evidence available, magnets and cosmetics just don’t mix.

Old Shakespeare said it – “Nothing’s neither good nor bad but thinking makes it so” – - – He was right ! Positive results CAN occur if you have enough faith and belief in something ! The mind is an amazing thing – It, alone, can perform miracles even when science says you can’t ! If you like the sound of it – Go for it !!!!!!!

This is just the kind of thinking that we lobby against on this blog. The mind is an amazing thing but it DOESN’T perform miracles. Everything the brain/mind does can be explained by a natural process. We may not know the process yet but that doesn’t mean it can’t be explained.

Whether you have faith in something or not will NOT affect the results when it comes to something like magnets. This is just new age nonsense. Don’t waste your money. Instead donate it to poor people or cancer research. Don’t give it to con men and charlatans that are looking to rip you off.
