Here is the thing though. PETA does not have an option because they do not run shelters. They house less than twenty percent of the animals they pick up in private homes, and only about fourteen percent are adopted out.

Compared with other organizations with actual shelters who routinely adopt out, even problem animals, seventy to eighty percent.

If you really care about animals support the Human Society, not PETA.

You make a great point Lara. We weren’t trying to imply that PETA has an option. It just seems ironic that perfectly healthy animals are killed by an animal rights group because no one wants them.

You kind of make it sound like PETA has the option of placing every stray animal they encounter with a good home, but they choose to kill them instead. There aren’t enough good homes, and most shelters don’t have the resources to keep unlimited numbers of animals indefinitely. They support euthanizing animals not as an alternative to placing them in good homes, but as an alternative to letting them suffer in unsanitary, unhealthy, inhumane conditions. There’s nothing inhumane about PETA’s stance; it’s not a contradiction at all.
