In a breakthrough that’s part Victoria’s Secret and part Victor Frankenstein, researchers have developed a smart bra that can detect cancer. Tiny circuitry in the cups detect small temperature changes in internal tissues that can signal tumor growth. And yes, before you ask, they are working on a men’s underwear version that detects prostate cancer.
Would YOU wear a bra that could help you avoid a deadly disease? Leave a comment and let the rest of the Beauty Brains community know what you think.

Yes! Since early detection and good outcomes usually go together it seems a bit of a no brainer. But then regular self breast exams help in early detection too, and I’m not sure I do that as often as I should.
Yes, I definitely would! I don’t see the downside in it. Like Julie said, early detection and good outcomes tend to be correlated. I just wonder how much it would cost, and how many people would spend the money to buy a bra that they’d only wear every so often for a short period of time just to make sure they didn’t have cancer. I’m assuming that it wouldn’t be worn regularly, considering that would mean washing it- which probably wouldn’t be good for electrical equipment.
Hi Midbrain!
I would wear it but I sure hope it doesn’t look like that!…LOL
Why don’t we just wear a bra for support and comfort. And let the scans up to the doctors. Come on people this stuff is going to far. No I wouldn’t buy one.
CJ: What if it was cheaper to wear this bra for a week every 6 months or so than it was to go to the doctor for the scan. Would you wear it then?
I would probably do it assuming the price wasn’t prohibitive. Also, it would depend on how often it gives false positives thus requiring a trip to the doctor. So accurate, plus affordable = yes.
If it will not cost me a 1-second mortgage; 2- my firstborn or 3-a pound of flesh.
I am on my way to get a lump checked in about an hour. YES, I would wear this if it was cost effective.
But, aren’t there dogs doing that job now, too!
buenos dias,
Lynnette
i have the same skepticism about it being ridiculously expensive – but the idea is great, i would absolutely wear it.
i can’t wait for them to come out with a push-up version…LOL
I would definitely buy one. As someone who has gone thru the agony of waiting for biopsy results after my mammogram (fortunately for me the results were negative)I believe this could save many lives that might otherwise be lost. The only drawback I can see is that some people may use this and skip the monthly breast self-exam and yearly mammogram, which are imperative in the fight against breast cancer.
I definetly would, but again it would need to be cost-effective and accurate.
No I still wouldn’t wear it. I would still go to my doctor.
Of course I would wear one. I would welcome anything that would help us,as breast cancer scares us to death. Of course God willing, the US Govt will pay for the bra and the fitting of it.It cant come soon enough.
CJ: Probably not good to tell you, but doctor’s aren’t 100% right!!! In fact, neither are mammograms or any other diagnostic test!!!
I would definately buy it
yes yes yes yes
First, I have a bit of a pet peeve about how the question was phrased, and about all the scare tactics in general that are used in regard to women’s health. A night in front of the TV or flipping through a “women’s” magazine is enough to make you think that being a woman is a disease. But I digress. Sort of. Your question asks us if we would wear the bra if it would help you avoid a deadly disease. If the information about this bra is true, then it would, at most, give one the advantage of early detection. This bra WOULD NOT help you avoid getting breast cancer. It’s like those commercials that tell you getting a mammogram can prevent breast cancer—NOT! It’s one way to detect it. A useful tool, yes. But it does not prevent it. And to my knowledge, there isn’t anything that does. Yet.
@Agnes – Thanks for your comments.
Your critique about the title is understandable. But competition for readers attention skews all headlines to be a bit more sensationalized than is always warranted.
No one said the bra would help you avoid getting breast cancer. However, certainly early detection could save someone’s life. You’re correct that nothing will prevent breast cancer.
What an ugly thing it is. The bra can not help you to avoid disease!! Can it help to diagnose? What would be the difference between this bra and mammogram or termogram, or MRI?
thebeautybrains Says“nothing will prevent breast cancer”? the rate of breast cancer on decline after the “ discovery” that Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can affect a woman’s risk of getting cancer.
Here are few thinks to prevent deadly disease.
1. Avoid use of estrogen
2. Avoid prolong use of oral contraceptives
3. Diet high in animal fat contributes to cancer formation, it has xenohormones (hormones that act like estrogen in our body). The same applies to non organic milk.
4. Eliminate junk food out of your life: Coca-Cola, candy, cakes, hotdogs and cured meats.
5. Reduce your exposure in the workplace and home to chemicals or pollution from chemicals and waste from chemical plants.
6. Many prescription drugs can contribute to cancer formation. Learn about every medication that you put in your mouth.
7. Eat 4-5 portions of fruits and vegetables per day. 2 or 3 of those veg from cruciferous family: Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, kale.
8. Take supplements of vitamins made from fruits and veg. Take supplements of minerals. Selenium is very important anti-oxidant.
9. Take green tea extract: contains polyphenols, catechins, and flavonoids shown to be protective against estrogen-dominant breast cancers. Research used the standardized extracts at a dosage of 100 mg per day; take this along with your cup of green tea.
10. Eat curcumin: is the yellow pigment of turmeric. it is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent and works to inhibit all steps of cancer formation.
Finally, take omega-3 fats from fish oil in form of pill: improve the fatty acid composition of women’s breast tissue when taken in three grams-per-day doses, lowering breast cancer risk.
This sounds like a great idea and yes, I would buy it
cancer detecting bra……
For starters I LOVE that bra shaped like hands…wicked! And yes, if it was comfortable, and attractive, and affordable AND it detected early signs of breast cancer, I would wear it.
Cancer is one of todays almost unavoidable diseases, apparently the odds are 1 in 3 people will get cancer, that means me, you or someone you know will be diagnosed with it at some stage in their lives. Eating a healthy diet is always advisable but in this day and age its also REALLY difficult to do unless everything you consume is biodynamic…not just organic!!!
My Mum died recently from breast cancer. She was diagnosed 18 years ago and she did nearly everything imaginable, from grinding up the pith of an apricot kernal, to fresh beetroot and carrot juice, to a nothing but water diet for 28 days……in the end the cancer came back because of STRESS!
She was as fit as a malley bull, she was beautiful and she was healthy….but she had experienced a great deal of heartache, loss and disappointment and I truly believe that is why her body just gave up the fight.
If only there were a bra invented that could detect rising stress levels, I reckon even men would wear it then. lol!
Well YES, obviously. If I could afford it. I rather doubt that it’s an idea that will have much chance to catch on with the general public, however. Too much technology involved, too many different sizes, shapes, etc. However, if it replaces the mammogram simply as an in-office testing device, there might be a place for it.
After doing some research and it all matches up, yes.
I think dogs are being used to detect skin cancer, haven’t heard if they moved to other cancers.
L.
PS. I’d buy one, there are family members with breats and vaginal cancer and am scared of the mamograms cause I’ve got big boobs!
Not if it looked like the S&M bra pictured. But as an alternative to awful, hurtful mams, you bet.
