Believe or not: there’s an actual dermatological condition known as “Excited Skin Syndrome.” While it sounds like something you’d talk about in an adult chat room, it actually refers to a state of skin hyper-irritability. I’m not exactly sure what that means, but the next time I have to call in sick for work I’m telling my boss that I have Excited Skin Syndrome just to see what his reaction will be.
I’m sure the Right Brain would have some witty comment about Sarah Bellum and her easily excited skin, but I’ll skip the slanderous remarks and just ask our Beauty Brains community to leave a comment if they think they have “ESS.”

I don’t know if i have ‘ESS’ but I have such sensitive skin, that even my tears burn my skin
Wow, that is sensitive skin!!
I had a facial a year ago and when she put some cream on my face to exfoliate it she told me it would feel minty for a few seconds…well, it burned my cheeks so badly that she had to wipe it off and put some cooling gel on it. My face was red, blotchy, and painful for hours and hours and into the next few days. And everytime I put my own Oil of Olay face lotion on it would burn and it was winter and I needed some protection. Oh it was most awful. It just started healing up this past spring. She told me my skin was uber dry, but seriously I have had facials before and NEVER had that reaction. I doubt it is ESS….but that day it felt like it could have been.
I have what Kylie has, very sensitive skin. Everytime I would get waxed, I’d look like Ronald McDonald for a day or so afterward. I have bad reactions to just about everything I put on my face. I’m also allergic to a ton of stuff and although I should count my blessings that I don’t have asthma, I do have eczema and hives galore.
Oh and yes my tears burn my skin too. My son who is 12 inherited my skin and he has never been without a rash/hives/eczema since he was born.
The allergist is our best friend!
Oh, and did not know about it. Thanks for the information …
so i think i TOTALLY have this stupid thing…i broke up with my boyfriend about 2 months ago and we weren’t having any type of intercourse really…and now i’m getting back out there…well not going ALL the way…but i’m getting aroused in situations and a rash develops on the back of my neck…in between my breasts…and sometimes down by the folds where my legs start by my vagina…its ridiculous and COMPLETELY embarassing!! =( i’ve always thought it was like a heat rash…but now i think i’m connecting it with my intercourse instead…which so blows because how am i supposed to get rid of it? stop having fun?
