New Acne Drug Makes Skin 70% Less Oily

by Mid Brain on October 30, 2007 · 26 comments

Bad AcneWho wants to dry up oily skin? According to Science Daily, a new drug has been shown to reduce excess sebum secretion by 70%. And since sebum is one of the contributing factors to acne, this could lead to new improved acne treatment. The bad news is, the drug is still in testing so it isn’t on the market yet. So in the meantime we’re stuck with Clearasil.

Have you got a better acne treatment? Leave a comment and tell us your favorite.

That really sucks! I’d love to clear up the oil wells on my chin and forehead. Lets get this product tested and on the market. Right now I use Biore heating cleanser. I guess it is ok…

I use Proactive. It took a few months for me to start seeing results, and I almost gave up using it, but my skin is in the best condition of my life right now. I have combination skin, and get really oily around my nose and chin, and dry everywhere else. I use the Daily Oil Control product they have for my oily spots and it works great. I know Proactive can be on the expensive side, but for me it is worth it.

I love this site – long time reader, first time poster!

I use OC Eight. It is a professional mattifying gel and it work pretty well on my extremely oily skin. It is formulated to work for 8 hrs. Here are the ingredients:purified water, Acrysorb (brand of acrylates copolymer), propylene glycol, PEG-400, carbomer 940, sodium hydroxide, methylparaben, and disodium EDTA. Anyone else use this?

This kind of drug already exists and it’s called Accutane! It got rid of my acne! You take two pills a day for 6 months. You get it with a prescription from you dermatologist.

Cidel is a great acne treatment. It comes in a yellow packaging and is produced as a soap.
Although it is not directly connected to acne it dries upo excess oil and contains a natural anticeptic oil.
i strongly reccomend this and it doesnt only work but it is only around 99p making it the cheapest ‘acne’ treatment in its class

i use proactive. my skin has cleared up so much! there are no blemishes on my skin. things like clearasil do work but proactive is way faster on treatment. my friends all tell me that it dries out the skin, i could say that is good because its better than oily skin.

i use clean & clear scrub and then the moisturizer its working fine my nose and chin are kinda oily but it helped a ton so thats gone now!

Pro-active is really good. It’s not that expensive but serves it purpose because once those pimples are gone the bullying stops too. I don’t have very servere acne, well not really at all so i only use it at night or in the morning depending on my shower. Its a simple 3 step soulution, cleanser, toner and repearing lotion. It works wonders on my skin because when i don’t use it i see the difference. It is convienent with home delievery every two months and one delievery can be used between up to 3 people. Its worth it give it a go, its know as the best in the world and your skin deserves it, dosent it?

Please try Acne Getaway 101e – it is a lotion that contains lots of chinese herbs and works wonders. Available from Chinese Medicine shops on the high street or at a much lower price over the internet. ^_^

why do you want to dry your skin out?! you are only setting your self up for future problems with sensitivities and reduced oil flow = wrinkles! you can control it, but dont try to stop it!

Something that has worked very well for me for about 15 years now is Cabot Seban Solution. It’s a liquid you apply to your face with a cottonball after cleansing. It keeps my face poreless and shinefree ALL DAY! I’m surprised more people don’t know about this product. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING has worked as well for me than Cabot Seban Solution (I have experimented with MANY shine control and mattifying products, believe me). You can purchase it at http://www.cooperlabs.com. It is dermatologist recommended and it doesn’t dry out your skin, but it will actually will lock moisture onto your skin. Give it a try!

Hey
I got combination skin which is pretty sensitive so alot of the treatments just make my face go red and blochy :S. I did have pretty nasty acne all down the sides of my face and on my chin and nose and dry skin on my cheeks.

I found that Murad works…you can get it delivered without perscription and it has worked for me. It hasnt dried out my skin.

One thing that it recomends is to moisturise. Ive had differing advice about this and ive tried everything and i find that moisturising helps as long as the moisturiser isnt oil based…aqueos cream is water based so doesnt clogg the pores. Its important not to let your skin dry out as then it tries to compensate by producing oil which does clogg the pores and cause spots. Also dont wash your face too much as that takes dries the skin too.

Not all treatments work for everyone though because peoples skin is different :S
Hope this might help :S

Go to a proper doctor and get a referral to a dermatologist for Roaccutane. Very effective at retractrile acne. It reduces sebum excretion in the pilosebaceous unit, reduces Propionibacterium acne, and reduces scarring. Don;t take if youre planning on getting pregnant- its highly teratogenic

Herbs for Acne August 2, 2008 at 6:35 am

I use herbal remedies for my skin. I just prefer to use the natural stuff.

Here’s the one I really love:

The infusion made from basil leaves can be used as an effective acne treatment.
Just boil 4 tablespoons of dried basil leaves in 1 cup of water. Steep for 10 to 20 minutes. Apply it on the affected areas after it has cooled down.

Cheers.

Hey Rhonda – thanks for the tip about Seban ! They sent me a FREE sample and I liked it so much I bout a couple of jars. And, they didn’t charge any shipping.

Lu August 29, 2008 at 1:50 pm

Rhonda,

I have also been using Seban my Dr recommended it a couple of years ago and it really works in controlling my oily skin! It’s great more people should know about this product!

Sophie October 13, 2008 at 2:55 pm

I highly highly recommend Roaccutane, which you can get on prescription. I had tried everything; light treatments, laser treatments, facials, acne diets, other prescription drugs and creams, etc and nothing worked for me until this. My skin is nearly perfect – I have had 1 or 2 blemishes a year for the last 4 years.

Roaccutane does have some side effects – dry skin, chapped lips and joint pain whilst you are takng it -but the results were worth it.

Treatment consists of 2 pills once a day for 6 months and have to have blood tests at the start and 3 months into treatment.

If you’re not sure about roaccutane or have have only mild acne then try differin the topical cream form of roaccutane and is the only other medicine that made any sort of impact on my skin.

Un peu dégueu là quand même.

Sarah January 24, 2009 at 12:52 pm

Thanks for all the good information! I have tried various acne medications in the past, and i have experienced side affects with some products so be careful out there! And drink lots of water. That does help!

Jaye R August 23, 2009 at 8:43 am

Hi,
I use MOM – Milk of Magnesia. I find that this works pretty well. I wash my face at night and then pat this on with a round cotton facial pad. Try it you may find that it works well for you!
