Im 22yrs old (black woman) and have had a relaxer since I was 14(long kinky hair). I started w/ just for me, over the yrs I used many relaxers, but for over a yr now I have been using the olive oil no-lye relaxer. I see a lot of people complain about breakage, I must say I never had that problem, I have cut my hair before and it grew back in less then a yr. People usually abuse their hair.
I suggest that people w/ relaxed hair do oil treatments and deep conditioning often, trim their hair after each relaxer and if you dont want to let your hair air dry, I would say use roller sets. I relax my hair every 3-4months And another thing is I NEVER use a flat iron.
I suggest that mothers wait to relax their daughters hair, until she knows and is responsible enough to take care of her own hair (usually a little after puberty)
Hope I helped

Beautybrains what about this product called Curlaway Relaxer by Xenna? Its supposed to be a alkaline free relaxer that use acetic acid to break the hydrogen bonds in hair instead of S-S bonds to temporarily and gently relax the curl of hair over extended use. Would this work??? And if so wouldn't vinegar have the same effect because its active ingredient is acetic acid to??? Can you please shine some light to if this product would work! Because it seems revolutionary and not many people know about it
