Lahens Viarr Toner Review
From the Beauty Brains Forum Member Pas71:
Lahens Viarr has four different toners designed to use after cleansing to refresh and calm the skin. I tried the Chamomile Mint Freshener with Salicylic Acid, which is made for oily skin.
According to the Lahens Viarr website: “A hint of alcohol, coupled with the cool freshness of Salicylic Acid, cuts through oils and residue gently reducing dead skin cells. Naturally soothing chamomile nurtures the skin while vitamins and natural herbal blends refine pores. Helps to restore skin’s original moisture balance and control excessive oiliness.”
Tingly touch
I really enjoyed how the toner made my skin feel; it was cool and tingly thanks to the mint. It also did seem to calm my skin, which is not what I’m used to. Generally, I use either Biore Triple Action Astringent or Neutrogena Rapid Clear Treatment Pads. Both of these products have quite a bit of alcohol in them (I have to hold my breath when I use the Neutrogena pads!), so the Lahens Viarr was a nice change from that.
Costly cleanser
However, the Lahens Viarr didn’t take off as much soap/makeup residue (especially from my hairline) as my other products do. It also didn’t seem to clear as much oil off of my skin as my other products do. Of course, this is likely due to the lower alcohol content, which is probably a good thing, but I enjoy that squeaky clean feeling! And at $18 for 6 ounces, it’s far more expensive than my preferred Biore and Neutrogena products.
Good for rebound oil
Overall, this is probably a good product for someone who is looking for a gentler toner that will clear off excess oil and soap residue after washing without over-drying. It may also be great for someone who experiences “rebound oil” after using a toner that is too harsh. However, I think I’ll be sticking with my (far less expensive) Biore and Neutrogena.

Beauty Brains, how can you let somebody recommend a toner that contains alcohol and what sound like other irritants (”cool and tingly”?) for “somebody who is looking for a gentler toner” (or, in other words, someone who might have sensitive skin)?
I’ll be honest - I liked this blog better when it was just the Brains. Unprofessional reviews are valuable - and I read them - but the reliable information was what made this particular blog different.

Kripata: Thanks for your comment. The primary objective of our blog is to educate and most of what we publish is focussed on explaining how product really work. So providing “reliable information” is still our focus.
But recognizing that some of our readers like to see product reviews, we decided to allow our Forum members to contribute occasional posts about their experience with specific products.
We recognize that these posts have a different appeal than those written by the Left, Right, and MidBrain, and we hope that you appreciate them in a different way. But if our community makes it clear to us that they do NOT want reviews on our site, we’ll discontinue them. We’re always experimenting with our site trying to make it better for you. Some of those experiments will work and some won’t.
Either way, feedback like yours is essential and we thank you for your honest input.

I think this is worth discussing so I started a thread on the forum.

Hi Kripata,
I meant that this toner might be good for someone who has oily skin that doesn’t want to use harsher toners (like the neutrogena and biore). This toner is actually made for oily skin, as it says in the review. I, in no way, would say that this toner would be good for someone with sensitive skin. The Lahens Viarr line makes other toners that may be well-suited to people with sensitive skin, but this is definitely not it.

Wanted to point out that I never use a toner by itself. I use a cleanser first then the toner. The cleanser is designed to take out the majority of the excess oil. I think toners are to remove any residual oil, and tighten pores.
