Beauty Brand Brain Control

Sarah Bellum says:

Lefty and Righty have blogged before about the uber-power of advertising. So I thought you might get a kick out of reading about this cool study that shows how brand logos can affect how we act.

I read this at ScienceDaily.com: “Researchers found that even the briefest exposure to well-known brands can cause people to behave in ways that mirror those brands’ traits.” (They tested the effect of the Apple computer logo on people’s creativity.) “These experiments demonstrate that most any brand that has strong associations with particular traits could have the capacity to influence how we act.”

Wow! This made me curious about the we’re all affected by beauty brand logos. Are they really haunting our subconscious, turning us all into zombie shoppers? There’s only one way to tell: let’s test how well these logos are seared into our beauty brains by seeing how many of these famous cosmetics logos you can identify even after I’ve taken out some key parts. Good luck girls! I’ll post the answers tomorrow.

Geez, I think I got them all

Sarah Bellum March 30, 2008 at 2:41 pm

Cate: Either I made them too EZ or you’re a mind-controlled zombie brand slave! lol.

let’s see…
i see
sunsilk
biore
coach (not sure)
keri
clinique
olay

I don’t even buy those products but I recognize them almost instantly. Is that good or bad?

Shawna March 30, 2008 at 7:55 pm

viannee you missed Aveda, MAC, and Nexxus. And it’s not Coach, it’s Chanel.

I’m pathetic. I’m a brand name zombie, clearly. : (

Shawna March 30, 2008 at 7:56 pm

ooops, I think the other one is Pierre Cardin but I’m not sure. Maybe there’s hope for me yet.

Gloria March 30, 2008 at 9:51 pm

hm.. bottom would be Olay and Bumble & Bumble?

MR March 30, 2008 at 10:08 pm

Aveda, MAC, Sunsilk (didn’t get it until I read it in viannee’s post), Biore, Chanel, Keri, Clinique, Olay, Bumble & Bumble, Nexxus? And the only one I use on a regular basis is Sunsilk, sometimes Clinique. Sad.

viannee March 31, 2008 at 2:17 am

lol. I guess I’m still a little brand conscious. :)

Oh, I’m sure my dd, the fashionista, could name them all, but I only got sunsilk and nexxus :( . Or rather :) yea! I’m not brand conscious!

I see: Aveda, MAC, Sunsilk, Biore, Chanel, Keri, Clinique, Olay, Bumble & Bumble, aaand Nexxus.

Obviously, I see too much advertising (though I use what works, not what’s flashy)!

Casey March 31, 2008 at 1:47 pm

Sad…I couldn’t ID any, but they all looked familiar. What does that mean!! Ha!

Cate March 31, 2008 at 7:06 pm

HAHA!! I totally missed the last 2. I didn’t scroll far enough to the right! Iwould not have gotten bumble and bumble if indeed it is that. Eventually I would have gotten Nexxus.

I think you just made them too easy Sarah ;)
