It’s that time of the week again to see how well the Beauty Brains community can figure out the science
versus the nonsense. Head on over to the blog and enter your answer to this week’s beauty science or BS poll. We’ve picked 3 headlines ripped from the pages of our favorite science feeds and made one up. Can you figure out which of the following stories is FAKE?
Beauty Science or BS Headlines
1. Women in their 40s report more issues with their skin than any other group.
2. Data suggests the smell of rotten eggs can increase human lifespan.
3. Male interviewers are more biased in favor of attractive interviewees than female interviewers.
4. Eating tomatoes can protect skin from sun damage
Good luck and feel free to leave a comment below to say why you picked the way you did.

Hi, Brains!
Little comment off the subject, but I saw something on the news that was real beauty BS! It was a segment on WBZ in Boston, where a news reporter was using “Skin Deep” (I know how much you love them!) ingredients database from EWG on her laptop to show women at the airport how horrible and cancerous their lipsticks were. One woman just chucked her lipstick in the trash after she saw all the “cancerous dangers”. The news report proceeded to mention that many suspect cosmetic ingredients are prohibited in the EU, but still allowed in US. Interestingly enough, no specific ingredients were mentioned except the famous parabens and phthalates. They did not mention any specific medical studies, and presented the “Skin Deep” site as a final authority on cosmetic ingredients…I can just picture all the panicked women throwing out their conventional cosmetics and running to purchased expensive “all natural” alternatives…

i think its the smelling bad eggs…….who in their right mind would believe that??? if any thing, that would shorten your life!!!
Tonya Says:
I voted for the smell of rotten eggs increasing the life span since the rotten egg smell is H2S which is a toxin.

I would think it’s the rotten eggs headline that is the fake. As a woman in her 40’s I actually have skin issues, which I didn’t have when I was younger. I think men would like female interviewees better, because that puts THEM in the power position, as opposed to the other way around. I am not really sure about the tomato headline, but I would guess something about the vitamins in tomatos would help (purely guessing here). The eggs headline seemed far-fetched.
