Renee requests: Does the light that comes from your computer screen cause any kind of UV damage???beauty questions quickly answered

Mid Brain Removes the Shades:

No.

Computer screens do not emit UV light so there is no need to worry about UV damage. They emit visible light which is not harmful to skin. Rest assured that the hours spent in front of your computer perusing the Beauty Brains archives will not contribute to facial lines and wrinkles.

What about CFL lightbulbs….do they emit UV rays? I’ve read they do, but can’t seem to find any solid information about this. I’ve been paranoid about this ever since buying them.

    Jeni,

According to manufacturers CFLs do emit UV rays. The levels stated were 50 - 140 microwatts per lumen. This is compared to the amount from regular light bulbs that emit 100 microwatts per lumen. Both of these are much lower than outdoor UV radiation but not zero.

If you’re still worried about UV emissions, GE sells Saf-T-Gard® bulbs that have UV filters on them.

That’s good to hear. If it did cause cancer, I would be a goner!
