How To Make Your Brown Eyes Blue

by Mid Brain on June 27, 2008 · 47 comments

Mid Brain muses:

The folks over at C&E News are reporting on a new technology for changing your eye color. Researchers at Ciba Vision andeyes.jpg Bausch & Lomb have come up with a new way to change eye color that works much better than the current technology. While colored lenses have been around since the 1970′s, they haven’t worked well for making brown eyes look naturally blue.

But now by using nanotechnology (really really tiny particles) and inspiration from the wings of butterflies, even the darkest brown eyes can be made blue. And it won’t even require a breakup with your boyfriend. I’ve gotta tell you, it’s stories like these that makes this Beauty Brain proud to be a scientist.

What do YOU think? Would you wear a special pair of contacts to change your eye color?
What if you don’t wear glasses or contacts? Would you wear them just to change your eye color? Leave a comment and share your colorful thoughts with the rest of the Beauty Brains community.

Yes, I would wear colored contact lenses but ones that make a sublte change in eye color. Does anyone know if they’re out on the market yet? Where can I get them?

anactoria June 27, 2008 at 10:03 am

Brown eyes blue? What about us pale-eyed folk who /want/ rich dark ink blot eyes? I’d definitely wear coloured contacts. People ask me all the time if I do now (I don’t) but when I tried blue no one noticed!

I tried a ‘honey brown’ and looked like an alien trying to pass as human. It was awful.

Yes, as a “brown eyed girl”, I would like a natural looking change.Especially if the new ones have better optical quality that the older ones. I have tried a few of the older colored ones for brown eyes, and the optical quality of them did not seem as good as the ones which are not highly colored. i.e just tinted… I have seen some of the old ones that looked pretty fake on some folks too…especially if their eyeball itself was fairly prominent. So, I hope these new ones look natural with great optics…and of course, come in great colors!

Well … no. My eyes are already a strange and rather rare amalgam of brown and green, and I’m not really slobbering for the chance to look like an Aryan, thanks. I’m Italian, this is what we look like.

Karen June 27, 2008 at 1:11 pm

My eyes are hazel; a combination of green, gold, and brown flecks. I get compliments on them but I wish they were more distinctive. Even though I don’t wear contacts, I’d definitely consider wearing these new lenses if I thought I could get good results.

Eileen June 27, 2008 at 6:05 pm

I think my brown eyes are fabulous and just as gorgeous as light eyes. I wear contacts anyway but I don’t need a color change!

Stephanie June 27, 2008 at 9:03 pm

IT’S ABOUT TIME!!!! I’ve been waiting for this my whole life. I don’t dislike my eyes but I would like to play with contacts without looking freakish. Will they have green too!!!?!?!? When will this be available to the consumer market?!?!

Stephanie June 27, 2008 at 11:36 pm

Oooh beauty brains : ( That article is dated 2005. Those contacts have long been on the consumer market. I’ve tried them, they look just as fake as traditional color lenses. *crushed*

marshiemallows June 28, 2008 at 5:58 am

that’s cool. i don’t want to wear contacts though. i love my eye color.

Lauri June 28, 2008 at 4:40 pm

No. I don’t even have to think about about it. I am the only one in my family with blue eyes and I love them.

Melina June 29, 2008 at 6:13 pm

Nope. Eyes are the window to the soul, after all. And I like my soul just the way it is.

Shauna July 1, 2008 at 12:48 pm

Honestly, no, my eyes are already a bright natural blue and it’s such a rare thing that I’d hate to cover over them. Most I do is wear clear contacts because I hate wearing my glasses.

S July 1, 2008 at 10:59 pm

This article’s pretty old. October 10, 2005! Freshlook Colourblends have been available for ages. Pretty good, but still not very natural looking.

Nn July 25, 2008 at 10:26 pm

I have really light brown eye’s, almost yellow at time’s,I dont want blue eye’s just dark green eye’s without it looking fake, but nothing worked so far

Vivian August 10, 2008 at 9:27 am

Hey. I want golden eyes but have green eyes! I heard contacs can mess up your vision if u you dont need them so how can i change my eye color?

jesse October 22, 2008 at 9:57 am

I have light brown eyes and I use to have them blue when I was a newborn if they relly work I would go ahead and try this things just to get the blue back no questions ask !!!!!!!

Sh January 7, 2009 at 5:40 am

I am using green optifit(have an astigmatism) durasoft 3 colorblends (uses 3 colors to make green) and absolutely love them, an eye doctor couldn’t even tell I had them until I told him that the glasses I was holding were mine!

chris January 12, 2009 at 4:11 pm

could they do unnatural eye colors like brown to light purple or red?

Vanessa March 24, 2009 at 10:26 pm

I would so use the new contacts, I do like my brown eyes but I would love to experiement with other colors without looking alien-ish. As to Chris’s comment about red and purple colored contacts, I would agree with purple, but not red, you’d look like a “new born” from the Twilight saga which would totally creep me out, unless you ARE looking for that look.

Tiffany April 25, 2009 at 3:16 pm

i have golden/toffee brown eyes and i like them but i wish they were a little brighter and more obvious cos they are only obv in the bright sun.. any ideas?

Veronica August 25, 2009 at 11:27 pm

I have dark brown eyes and have been wearing the Natural Touch contacts for 12 years! I love them! They have waaaay better color than the Freshlook and they look sooooooo natural. I started with green and moved to blue and finally gray and there are so many people that compliment me on my eyes being so beautiful. They don’t even know that they are contacts! They have so many shades out there that I can’t believe that anyone would use anything else!

Alastair October 19, 2009 at 10:49 pm

I have a mixed color eye due a small percentage of hebrew and italian in my background, neither of which am I proud of. I would jump at the chance to remove any of the red pigments that dirty up my green scots-irish eyes with mediterranean hues, causing them to look brown in soft light or at a distance. In bright sunshine everyone can tell I’m Irish, but on cloudy days or indoors in poor light my eyes look brown and I die a little inside everytime I pass a mirror.

Candy November 8, 2009 at 10:44 am

if can make my eyes look sexier and bigger, why not? if you don’t want to look “totally different”, just opt for color contact lenses that enhance your eye color, it will give you subtle changes :)

tina November 15, 2009 at 8:27 pm

i would wear contacts to change my eye color because when people look at me they think i have black for my eye color ( i don’t think that’s possible though) but it would be fun to change it up once in a while!

Caroline December 20, 2009 at 12:19 pm

I have dark green eyes and I don’t like them!
I want blue eyes, but my mother doesn’t allow me to wear contacts because she said they are bad for eyes and for health.
I WANT BLUE EYES!

Jeremy December 27, 2009 at 3:54 pm

To answer your question, I think that would be awesome and yes I would put them on just to change my eye color.

Mills January 2, 2010 at 11:50 am

Of course I would, are you kidding me? I have been trying to find blue contacts to make my dull, dark, brown eyes stand out, but like electric blue, I found these Freshlook Dimensions pacific blue ones but I doubt they will work since my eyes are quite dark, if such thing was invented at an affordable price, I will be ecstatic and would definietley buy it!

Kimberly im11 May 11, 2010 at 6:48 pm

this doesnt actually tell u how to change the color…wat a waste..

Alala May 26, 2010 at 2:52 pm

Oh man Black + Red is Brown, brown eye ones are lucky. but its natural

Insulted June 15, 2010 at 10:10 am

I think this is gay. Why is there so much brown eyed hate? Brown eyes are fucking gorgeous and sexy and can shine gold in the sun :D Yet they’re so unappreciated and labelled as ‘dull’, ‘plain’ while the same stupid people worship blue eyes. Which aren’t even that great. Blue eyes can look washed out and dull in my opinion while brown eyes can shine in a way no other eye colour can and look amazing! Examples: Eva Longoria, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba etc.
I hate how people are developing all these stupid ways to change the way people look as well. Dying hair and fake tan is ok I think… but putting pieces of things on your eyes to change the colour… its a step towards extreme stuff like liposuction and shit- which is just stupid. We should all start embracing real, natural beauty more.

What about other eye colours that might wanna try brown? Not everyone worships blue eyes…. I hate the stupid standards and stereotypes…

asim July 12, 2010 at 9:07 pm

i would try them on in an instant because all of my family has light brown eyes and i have dark brown i would like to switch it up and make my eyes green or blue but mostly blue

Sarah July 12, 2010 at 9:41 pm

Insulted, if you can dish it out (to blue-eyed people, and by implication, gay people), why can’t you take it?

PrincessC August 9, 2010 at 10:33 pm

hey. i have brown eyes and I was wondering if you could make your eyes blue or green naturally without and contacts or lenses.

thanks x

mandydax September 6, 2010 at 2:34 pm

Shawn Nowitz November 4, 2010 at 12:06 am

I am half Danish, 1/4 African American, 1/8 Swedish, and 1/8 Indian. I naturally have very dark, blue eyes. My eyes are somewhat unique in that they are clear but almost a deep navy blue. I love my eyes because I have not seen many people with eyes like mine but because they’re dark, they don’t have a such a great contrast with and because of that most people don’t notice my eye color unless I mention them. I would defintely jump at the chance to try out having my eyes a lighter shade. In my case, I’d only like to have more of a contrast for my eyes to pop and I understand more where people with darker brown and black eyes come from.

ANNIE December 12, 2010 at 1:51 pm

ANNIE SILVA December 12, 2010 at 2:06 pm

I think all eye colours are pretty. I have brown eyes, wouldn’t trade them for anything. My colour slightly changed over the years. (I have no diseases, I have perfect eyesight) and they used to be a dark dark brown (which are stunning) and now they’re a light brown and the rim of them are green. They kinda twinkle too. My sister has blue eyes (which are really pretty, too) but mine, somehow, are more interesting to look at. I have been told that they are pretty a few times. Ever thought that God may have given most people brown eyes because they’re beautiful and exotic,

Anna February 15, 2011 at 7:16 pm

I have very dark brown eyes to the point where my pupil and iris almost blend together. I focus on putting contrast in my style, this means light skin for my dark hair and it’s be good to have light eyes to contrast my dark bangs and eye brows. I would like to try colored contacts to see if they would give me the desired contrast.

eve March 14, 2011 at 2:50 pm

YES i would , i have dark brown eyes and they look like poo… i would give or do anything just to have blue or green eyes any thing but bron

Renee April 10, 2011 at 11:23 am

I have brown eyes that aren’t dark or light. they’re just…dull. and rather boring…or so i thought, before looking at all the comments on this article! i’m half African-American, and 1/4 German and 1/4 Irish. my hair is a crazy puffball that cannot be tamed, and my skin has a permanent tan that won’t go away, but now, i have a new appreciation for my eyes. soo…thanks. :)

Forestina Carolyn MacKillian July 16, 2011 at 9:44 am

Well for all of the brown eyed people out there, here are some tips:
1. wear black mascara with dark blue eyeliner and white eye shadow. this works every time if you want dark blue eyes.

i used to have dark brown eyes; they were almost black, but they lightened and lightened until they were green . by the time i was fourteen the changed to blue permanently, and i never wear makeup on my eyes. i am 23 years old now and they hAvent changed back to brown, but i kinda want them to . EVERYONES EYES ARE UNIQUE AND NEVER WISH TO CHANGE THEM . EVERYONES EYES ARE DROP DEAD GORGEOUS IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER!!! :)
