Mid Brain muses:
The folks over at C&E News are reporting on a new technology for changing your eye color. Researchers at Ciba Vision and
Bausch & Lomb have come up with a new way to change eye color that works much better than the current technology. While colored lenses have been around since the 1970’s, they haven’t worked well for making brown eyes look naturally blue.
But now by using nanotechnology (really really tiny particles) and inspiration from the wings of butterflies, even the darkest brown eyes can be made blue. And it won’t even require a breakup with your boyfriend. I’ve gotta tell you, it’s stories like these that makes this Beauty Brain proud to be a scientist.
What do YOU think? Would you wear a special pair of contacts to change your eye color?
What if you don’t wear glasses or contacts? Would you wear them just to change your eye color? Leave a comment and share your colorful thoughts with the rest of the Beauty Brains community.

Yes, I would wear colored contact lenses but ones that make a sublte change in eye color. Does anyone know if they’re out on the market yet? Where can I get them?
Brown eyes blue? What about us pale-eyed folk who /want/ rich dark ink blot eyes? I’d definitely wear coloured contacts. People ask me all the time if I do now (I don’t) but when I tried blue no one noticed!
I tried a ‘honey brown’ and looked like an alien trying to pass as human. It was awful.
Yes, as a “brown eyed girl”, I would like a natural looking change.Especially if the new ones have better optical quality that the older ones. I have tried a few of the older colored ones for brown eyes, and the optical quality of them did not seem as good as the ones which are not highly colored. i.e just tinted… I have seen some of the old ones that looked pretty fake on some folks too…especially if their eyeball itself was fairly prominent. So, I hope these new ones look natural with great optics…and of course, come in great colors!
Well … no. My eyes are already a strange and rather rare amalgam of brown and green, and I’m not really slobbering for the chance to look like an Aryan, thanks. I’m Italian, this is what we look like.
My eyes are hazel; a combination of green, gold, and brown flecks. I get compliments on them but I wish they were more distinctive. Even though I don’t wear contacts, I’d definitely consider wearing these new lenses if I thought I could get good results.
I think my brown eyes are fabulous and just as gorgeous as light eyes. I wear contacts anyway but I don’t need a color change!
IT’S ABOUT TIME!!!! I’ve been waiting for this my whole life. I don’t dislike my eyes but I would like to play with contacts without looking freakish. Will they have green too!!!?!?!? When will this be available to the consumer market?!?!
Oooh beauty brains : ( That article is dated 2005. Those contacts have long been on the consumer market. I’ve tried them, they look just as fake as traditional color lenses. *crushed*
that’s cool. i don’t want to wear contacts though. i love my eye color.
No. I don’t even have to think about about it. I am the only one in my family with blue eyes and I love them.
Nope. Eyes are the window to the soul, after all. And I like my soul just the way it is.
Honestly, no, my eyes are already a bright natural blue and it’s such a rare thing that I’d hate to cover over them. Most I do is wear clear contacts because I hate wearing my glasses.
This article’s pretty old. October 10, 2005! Freshlook Colourblends have been available for ages. Pretty good, but still not very natural looking.
I have really light brown eye’s, almost yellow at time’s,I dont want blue eye’s just dark green eye’s without it looking fake, but nothing worked so far
Hey. I want golden eyes but have green eyes! I heard contacs can mess up your vision if u you dont need them so how can i change my eye color?
I have light brown eyes and I use to have them blue when I was a newborn if they relly work I would go ahead and try this things just to get the blue back no questions ask !!!!!!!
I am using green optifit(have an astigmatism) durasoft 3 colorblends (uses 3 colors to make green) and absolutely love them, an eye doctor couldn’t even tell I had them until I told him that the glasses I was holding were mine!
could they do unnatural eye colors like brown to light purple or red?
I would so use the new contacts, I do like my brown eyes but I would love to experiement with other colors without looking alien-ish. As to Chris’s comment about red and purple colored contacts, I would agree with purple, but not red, you’d look like a “new born” from the Twilight saga which would totally creep me out, unless you ARE looking for that look.
yes!! i want to try them!! i like my eye color but i wanna try soemthing new! especially b/c i have brown eyes and brown hair
My eyes are dark brown and I want to impress my boyfriend,I’ve always wanted to have blue eyes and I’ve been searching in google till I found this page and now I now what to do.Thank you.
yes!! i have brown eyes and im sick of them but also love them!! lol so i dont want to have permetly blue eyes but i want to try them out and make them look normal!!
i have golden/toffee brown eyes and i like them but i wish they were a little brighter and more obvious cos they are only obv in the bright sun.. any ideas?
I have dark brown eyes and have been wearing the Natural Touch contacts for 12 years! I love them! They have waaaay better color than the Freshlook and they look sooooooo natural. I started with green and moved to blue and finally gray and there are so many people that compliment me on my eyes being so beautiful. They don’t even know that they are contacts! They have so many shades out there that I can’t believe that anyone would use anything else!
I have a mixed color eye due a small percentage of hebrew and italian in my background, neither of which am I proud of. I would jump at the chance to remove any of the red pigments that dirty up my green scots-irish eyes with mediterranean hues, causing them to look brown in soft light or at a distance. In bright sunshine everyone can tell I’m Irish, but on cloudy days or indoors in poor light my eyes look brown and I die a little inside everytime I pass a mirror.
