I agree — it’s #3. Although there are braces that align teeth and are clear, it seems the old-fashioned metal grills are the best.

I can’t recall what they are called, but there is a special lollipop that uses an herbal concoction that is supposedly anti-bacterial. I’m hoping the link will be in the answer, since I can’t remember the name for the life of me.
