Shiney Says…Can coconut oil grow my hair long?
Mid Brain’s slick reply:
The Beauty Brains previously wrote that coconut oil was one of the few oils that could actually penetrate hair and provide great conditioning. For that reason it’s better than many other oils – both natural AND synthetic. So it may help keep your hair from breaking, which means you may be able to grow it longer. But that doesn’t mean it’s going to actually change the way your hair grows. Except for a few approved drugs and laser treatments, there is nothing that’s been demonstrated to increase hair growth. That depends mostly on genetics!

All hair types are different and respond to different products. I’m an unhealthy vegetarian and I don’t take supplements. But my hair looks shiny and thick the day after I eat carrots. I think a good conditioner is most important, and I use an own brand from Superdrug for £0.97. I have tried lots of others, but this coconut and sweet almond works well for me, and I put it in an expensive bottle. But I change my products every few months or else my hair gets used to it and looks greasy. I wash and condition it every day. In 1 year, my hair has gone from a very short bob to long layered hair nead my bra. But I watch my hair and only get it cut when I feel split ends coming. And I go to a very expensive hair stylist who won’t butcher my style. Only you know your hair. What works for others most probably will not work for you. Relax and enjoy your hair. Stress will only ruin it. And take it easy on products, blowdrying, straighteners, brushing and twirling. Oh, and I used to lie on my bed with my head hanging down for a few minutes every few days to increase the blood flow. I don’t like to massage it as I know my hair is very fine and will break.
Hi guys!!
( please help guys
((
I recently got my hair chopped to a bob! and I dont like it at all…I use to have extremelly long hair… and now i dont anymore. I was wondering abuot the coconut oil, how you should apply it, and how many times a week. I also heard that olive oil mixed with honey coconut oil and an avacado can help your hair grow…is this true
Coconut oil can help hair growth (or at the very least stop loss of hair) in the following way. There are fatty acids in the oil that block a hormone called DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) from binding to the hair follicle. It is widely believed by scientists and researchers that it is primarily DHT that causes hair loss in susceptible individuals. Testosterone is converted into DHT via an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. By no means is coconut oil the magic bullet, but it is another weapon in the fight against hair loss. To suggest that it has no effect on hair growth, etc…is misinformed at best.
coconut Oil seems to be a sister of argan Oil, I like both of them

I have natural (afro-american) hair that was shedding more than I thought it should. I began a regimen of coconut oil as a pre-wash conditioner. I am recouperating from a horrific haircut as well as burning my hair. Thus far I noticed that the coconut oil treatment makes my hair extremely soft and shiny. I can feel the softness when shampooing as well as after is is blow dried.
Other than the softness I did notice that my hair is not shedding and it appears healthier. As far as growth is concerned it’s hard to say but I will continue using coconut oil because of the effects that I have noted.
My hair is collar length and I shampoo twice weekly.
Coconut oil and natural oils work
hello..m South African and i read all the great things that all of you laydies sent…MY HAIR IS……SHHHORRRT!..(M ABOUT TO CRY)..i have never had hair to my shoulder…E.V.E.R…so i might try the coconut and olive oil treatment..bt i dnt know if it will work or not…m so stressed out…its soo bad,i even have llow self-esteem most of the time.i hope these oils will work.thanx
Coconut will grow your hair. I tried it on my stubby lashes for two weeks. Everynight I took my makeup off with coconut oil and and about two weeks later I noticed my lashes were longer, I couldn’t really see them before and now they were curling up and longer. I kept using it and at 4 weeks my lashes were double the length. I have now started using it on my hair. If anyone likes ojon hair products just use this it cost almost nothing compared to the price of Ojon. Ojon uses palm oil which is essentially the same as coconut oil. If anyone has damaged hair and using any type of treatment just switch to this, it’s protein can penetrate your hair and your hair is made up of protein so it will help the condition of it. It only costs about $6 to try it and see. It worked for me, also it retains moisture like crazy, so if you exfoliate your lips and then pat dry and put this on them, it plumps them really well and keeps it that way for awhile.

I think you should check your facts before you suggest lawsuits and website closures; especially when ignorance added with confusion leads to false accusations. Don’t be upset, just talking from experience and education, but Genetics does indeed play a major role in hair growth. I thought I’d eduate you a little on the 3 stages of hair and maybe you can go figure out the rest for yourself, or maybe google it or something. Hair has 3 stages the Anagen, Catagen and Telogen stage, or in layman terms the growth, resting and shedding stage. Black hair has suffered a lot as the duration of the stages were never properly studied, and most companies marketing their hair products to the black consumers doesn’t really know or care much about their unique needs or phase lenghts, they just care about the billion dollar industry sucking money out of the unsuspecting individual who has no clue. When we do our own research and start marketing our own hair care remedies, then we get good results and this is why blacks are now growing healthy and well cared for hair. “Now we know we’ll grow!!!”
Argan oil and olive oil is good for our black hair. With a good shampoo after a warm (microwaved) olive oil treatment for 20 minutes helps. Then apply the Argan moisturizer while the hair is still damp, and seal it with the Olive oil (extra virgin) or the Argan oil if you can afford it. And don’t let them fool you with the drop of argan oil mixed with essential oils for $15.00, they’ve been fooling us for too long. Tell them you want the real stuff. The oil seals in moisture and if it is a good oil immediatlely the hair shaft will show in a few days, but still give it 2-3 weeks to show full improvement. I have bra strap length hair, and I have only grown it to that lenght after all my research from school and some here on the internet also. Olive oil as a hair and dry skin treatment before you shower and wash your hair, and it also helps for the dry cracked up heels and the wrinkles at the side of the eyes, if you use it overnight. Don’t use too much at the sides of your eyes unless you use the eye patch, it makes your sight blurry in the morning. Remember extra virgin olive oil and Argan moisturizer and Argan oil is all you need for healthy or damaged black hair. I have been on this regimen for 17 months and I ahve the disired length I need. Most people I tell about this are sceptical until they take the time and try it for themselves. COme on now, its under $20.00 and the 3 items will last for 3 months. I’d buy the Argan shampoo too, but the real effects comes from the olive oil treatment before hair wash, and the maintenace with the moisturizer and oil working together to combat dry, brittle, damaged non growing hair. If the scalp and follicles are healthy; then hair has no choice but to grow healthy and not split eventully breaking and falling out. Oh the stages of hair loss…should I continue????
P.S …another good trick for blacks with black heads and pimples that leave scars, try using vinegar and olive oil after exfoliating. You can exfoliate with some sand and face soap. Then add the mixture of vinegar and olive oil and let it sit on your face all night or for at least 4 hrs, then wash off. That’s all I use and it works wonders. My friend uses it also and she is caucasian and it works wonders on South Asian skin just the same.
Hope I helped!
Hey victoria,
I’m almost 13 too and I read this while massaging coconut oil in my hair to. I’m going to massage coconut oil into my hair once a week untill I see a difference in my hair growth. It’s been about 1 1/2 ago since you wrote that comment, but I want to know if you continued it and if it worked. Please write back! And if you do, maybe I can email you questions I have and you can give me tips and tricks. Thanks! <3
WoW! talking about coconut oil i think is one of the best for stretch mark!
yes there is something that has a 60% success in increasing hair growth and it is called: polysorbate 80
you can check out all the clinical trials performed on it.
Coconut oil only helps moisturize and strengthen the hair when used as a conditioner. A good oil is Nutiva which is cold-pressed, organic extra-virgin coconut oil. The best thing you can do for your hair is to take coconut oil INTERNALLY! It is good for you! I use a couple tablespoons melted oil stirred into my daily cold yogurt. It hardens like the chocolate covering on an ice cream bar and can be addictive! That is how coconut oil will help grow your hair! Read labels. NOT all are cold pressed virgin! Refined oils are worthless. The smell bad too. A good oil should smell of coconuts, be white and taste mild. Also taking Biotin is another great thing. I take Natures Bounty Hair, Skin and Nails 5000mcg from Walgreens.com. Most of the time you can get buy one get one which saves you a lot! I have taken it for 1.5 yrs and my hair now grows very fast. I have to color the roots every two weeks! As always treat your hair gently. NO ponytails as it pulls at the roots, SEAMLESS comb that won’t get caught and at least once a week coat your hair with coconut oil, plastic bag and shower cap over that all night. Wash out next morning and enjoy great hair!
