Here’s an interesting article from a writer at MSN Lifestyle about the 12 Hair Mistakes You May Be Making. She gets things mostly right, but there were a few things that the Beauty Brains wanted to clarify.
- Washing hair everyday – or more. It’s better not to wash hair everyday as it leads to more damage & fades color. But it’s not just the sulfate shampoos that fade color. ALL shampoos will fade color! In fact, just getting your hair wet is enough to fade the color.
. - Using too much conditioner. Instead of occasionally using a
deep treatment (they’re usually not much different than an everyday
conditioner) try using a different brand than usual. These will have different ingredients and provide a slightly different conditioning effect.
. - Pulling back your ponytail with just any elastic. It’s a good suggestion not to use rubber bands, but don’t fool yourself. Using a covered band is better but it won’t “protect” your hair from harm. Pony tails damage hair no matter what you use. Just be sure to use a conditioner anytime you’re going to wear your hair in a ponytail.
. - Ignoring the health of your scalp. If you’re washing your hair and rinsing it thoroughly, you’re doing enough for your scalp. Products marketed as “scalp treatments” are really not much different than regular products. It’s just marketing hype.
That’s what the Beauty Brains think. What about YOU? Leave a comment below with your hair handling tips.

I didn’t really realise that deep conditioning treatments were actually pretty much the same as regular conditioners… but i guess it makes sense when you look at the ingredients list.
But what about doing a hair glossing? Doesn’t that coat the hair shaft and protect it?
Pretty good list — but I noticed that they still nodded to the industry by saying “Keep getting regular trims!” If I’d done that, my hair would have stayed right at my collar while the stylist commiserated with me like, “Awwww, well, honey, some women just can’t have long hair!” while she was snipping away …
If you handle your hair gently and wear it up often, six months with no trims is just not going to be a problem.
That’s a great list. I love real advise not the commercial kind that is just trying to sell their product.
I do put up my hair too much. I think I better stop!

There is another I want to add and that is overstyling with hot tools. Definitely read the tips on using heat protecting products at http://www.-latest-hairstyles.com
I have a question: Where I live it has been oppressively hot. If I don’t wash my hair every night, it smells of sweat and stink the next day. Is it ok, if in this obnoxiously hot weather (in my friend Kelly’s words), if I wash it everyday?
