Mid Brain muses:
Ok, it’s probably not the sort of thing that non-scientists would get excited, but I’m tickled pink about the Beauty Brains being written up in the September 8, 2008 issue of Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN).
For those who don’t know, C&EN is the official weekly magazine of the American Chemical Society. Some of the Beauty Brains are card carrying members. They do a column called Newscripts where they post human interest stories about the world of Chemistry. Looks like the Brains are interesting enough.
You can click the attached image to read the scanned story.
Now, if we could only figure out how to get a mention in Cosmo, Allure, or Lucky. That would really make Sarah happy!
If you know how the Beauty Brains could get mentioned in a magazine, please leave your idea in the comments.

Hi, I am writing about Arbonne,
As a vegan I am sad to say that although it may be a good product. They are not 100% Vegan. I read the ingredients on the back of one of their products and found that they use Diolyzed Urea, and lactic acid (which are animal byproducts) I am not a protesting vegan. I understand that most things have animal byproducts. I just hate when companies claim to be something when they are not. I am sure they do not animal test and it seems that they have great people and companies behind them. I just feel that the company is out of integrity with what they claim to be. So if you are an arbonne supporter just wanted to let you know. And I also want to let others know. I called the headquarters and received and written confirmation that these ingredients are in fact animal byproducts but they are supposedly only used to “perserve the product.” My point is if there are any animal byproducts in it, it is not Vegan. Aren’t there other ways to perserve these products? I would expect so if you have companies like peta that support you or a stamp that says VEGAN, that they could find other perservatives. Anyway, as far as my studies and research show urea and lactic acid are animal byproducts. That being said do you know of any facial lines are are 100% authentically vegan with no animal byproducts? I am a bit bummed I really liked these products. Maybe your research can shed some light on this.
Congratulations on the C&EN mention!
Good stuff! I had not had a chance to get caught up on my C&EN yet, so thanks for the reminder!
September 8, 2008 issue of Chemical & Engineering. That’s a start! Nothing but good things to come from that.
Brains, the Cosmetic Cop is considering a blog. I just filled out a survey to indicate interest. You might want to communicate with them since one of the potential subjects was something like “guest posts by others in the industry”
Congratulations on getting metioned in your idustry magazine. It is quite an accomplishment. Keep up the good work of telling us the truth behind the hype. Your columns are always informative and funny, no, I mean hilarious.
A reader and fan

Congrats! I actually get this in the mail- I’ll look for you!
Oh, I’m so mad! Looks like someone in my family ripped off the last few pages- the very last page is page 94! Damn, I’d rather read about you guys than read the academic classifieds!
