Finally, answers to the latest Beauty Science quiz. This one fooled most everyone. Read on to find which compounds were real and which was a complete fabrication.

Sexithiophene – REAL

This one fooled almost no one receiving only 3% of the total votes cast. Sexithiophene is a real molecule

being studied for use as an organic polymer in electronics. The ’sexi’ part of the name refers to 6 sub-units of a thiophene ring.

Sparassol – REAL

This molecule didn’t trick many. 5% of the voters thought it was fake, but sparassol (’spare us all’) is an antibiotic that comes from a fungus named Sparassis ramosa.

Fruticolone – REAL

A few more (7%) of you were tripped up by this real name that sound fake. Fruticolone is a real molecule that gets its name from the plant it comes from Teucrium fruiticans and the fact that it is a ketone.

Antipain – REAL

15% of you thought this was fake but antipain is a real molecule. It has nothing to do with pain relief however. It is a protease inhibitor that helps prevent proteins from being degraded.

Lovenone – REAL

16% guessed lovenone was fake but it is real. Lovenone is a poisonous substance obtained from the skin of a sea slug or nudibranch called Adalaria loveni.

Windowpane – REAL

A whopping 43% of you didn’t believe this was real but it is. Windowpane is an organic molecule with 9 carbons and 12 hydrogens. It is named as such because its structure resembles a set of windows.

Ukulelione – FAKE

16% figure out that ukulelione was the fake molecule. This was a little in joke at the Beauty Brains because we know how much Sarah enjoys playing her ukulele.
