Cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions! We are a group of cosmetic scientists who understand what the chemicals used in cosmetics really do, how products are tested, and what all the advertising means.

I don't see how it would -- only if the stuff came back positive would it be a problem, and I doubt that any of those lead scares are for real.

I'd love to hear the complaints about the Evil Megacorps deliberately making their lipstick so that it comes up clear in the tests, though. How dare they -- making their products safe on purpose so we can't sue them! :-)

I just love the idea of the brains making little apprentice cosmetic scientists out of people. :-) For the cost of a pack of litmus strips, a bottle of stain with an eyedropper, and a glossy printed insert with directions for use, they could plant the seeds of little girl chemists everywhere, and improve the hell out of their branding with little makeup bags with Brain logos on them.

Or "Pretty Science" :) I dunno about testing your lipstick for lead. That might lead to some lawsuits and more fear mongering.

You know, I wonder if simple experiments like this can't be put together by the Brains, and you guys can sell not only books but little cosmetic testing kits with litmus strips and protein stains, and whatnot. Nothing involved, just a little kit in a pink zippered bag with some easy testing tools in it and step-by-step instructions on how to test your lipstick for lead, and how to test your conditioner's pH, that sort of thing. Shouldn't be too expensive; manu on the zippered bags would be the biggest expense. And people would be encouraged to keep and carry around the little bags and use them for makeup bags after the kit ran out -- with your nice brainy logo on them.

Been in marketing for a long, long time ...
