What’s in Sarah Bellum’s Bathroom? Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara!

by Sarah Bellum on March 18, 2009 · 11 comments

Thanks to everyone who read my last review on the Schick Quattro razor! Although I got a good tongue lashing from Lefty for posting a review, I was encouraged by the outpouring of support from many of the Beauty Brains community. So here’s another quicky glimpse inside my bathroom cabinet.stilettojulia_teaser121508_1

Warning: Do not read this if semi-banal product reviews turn you off. There’s another post on the page you can read instead. I promise it won’t hurt my feelings.

Maybelline Lash Stilletto Mascara

I love this product, especially the cutesy packaging. (It’s shaped like a high heel and, surprisingly, it stands up very nicely on my dressing table.) I like the way it distributes evenly when I put it on. It splits my lashes really uniformly – some mascaras make the middle lashes look one way and the lashes on the outside look differently. This one is very consistent. I think the secret is the applicator. It seems to take a very small amount of product to do the job. The wand looks like it hardly has anything on it at all.

But by far the best feature is how it thickens and lengthens without out clumping. With so many mascaras I’ve tried  that’s the trade off – I can get thickness but at the cost of a clumpy look. This one gives me the best of both worlds, and I adore it for that.

The only thing I didn’t care for is the slight base odor of the product. I can actually smell it for about 10 minutes or so after I put it on and that bugs me. But once that wears off, it’s just fine.

I totally agree about the smell. I find that it lingers longer. I’ve stopped using it for that reason.

Is it a tubal mascara? (I love tubes.) How about flaking? does it last for a long time?

I think my Last Injection smells weird – but it doesn’t last once it’s dried. It took me a while to figure out how to apply it without making it look crazy clumpy.

@Kit: No, this mascara doesn’t form tubes like Blinc Kiss Me mascara.

@Sarah Bellum: You’re complaining about getting a good “tongue lashing?” I thought you LIKED that kind of thing.

I’m back!

I went out and bought it this weekend. OMG! I love love it! There is a smell – but it didn’t bother me and was gone pretty fast. I love the way it looks on! It took two coats, but I love it. It’s my new favorite. ^^ <3

I’ve been using Diorshow Iconic mascara…VERY pricey but does work pretty good. My only gripe with every single mascara is clumping. I always have to wipe the tube with a paper towel (tissue leaves fuzz) to remove excess and prevent clumping. Anyone else? Also, I used to always “pump” the mascara tube but stopped a few years ago b/c I heard it ruined the mascara…I can’t remember the exact problem it caused…maybe makes it dry out faster? Any thoughts?

Hey Jess,
Pumping does push air back and dry out the mascara. Diorshow is my fave, but I know that I have to change it quite often because it will dry out. I didn’t get the vampy look I love on my lashes with this Lash Stiletto mascara, but it’s a really great ‘day time’ look. I am going to try Max Factor’s volume couture and see if it can dethrone DiorShow.

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!! Ladies this mascara is fabulous – I have tried many brands of mascara, from the least expensive to extremely expensive and everything in between.

I paid $8.99 for Maybelline Stiletto mascara and was amazed at the results!! This is the first mascara I have tried that made my lashes look VERY much like the lashes in the ads! Worth every penny and Im sticking with this brand for good.

Lashes look fantastic for everyday and for a dramatic “false eyelash look” when you glam up, just use some black liquid liner at the base of your lashes on the lids and the Stiletto mascara and people will be stopped in their tracks.

XO Enjoy!!!!

Hey Sarah,

I know this review is quite a-ways in the past but i’m going back through the site since I just discovered it and I love it! While I like the odd review here and there and think it fleshes out the site nicely, i think the bickering between you and lefty on the blog is a bit childish and to be honest, off.

The sentiments in the schick review and then continued on this one and future ones such as the candle etc are a bit weird…

it’s a bit uncomfortable reading a blog and seeing domestics and thinking that the people who are producing it maybe aren’t getting along… i personally like to see people united in the name of beauty =p… it probably isn’t my place to say so but oh well.

Just my 2 cents from an avid beauty-blog fan and new beauty brains reader!

Danni – not to worry. We are still all one big happy ‘brainy’ family. It gets a little crazy in the office here so we like to goof around with each other on occasion.
