Here’s the latest product I’ve had the pleasure of trying – the new Blue Absinthe candle from Delirium & Co.

Who the heck is Delirium & Co.? I had no idea either until I read the press release:

Delirium & Co. was created by the founder of the Candle Delirium store in West Hollywood, CA that carries over 30 of the most sought after candle lines and now the best of them all, Anthony Carro’s very own soy blend wax collection that burns for over 55 hours of each pure, indulgent scent. The store has an ongoing list of celebrities that come in to get a candle or to create a gift basket of various candles for a special occasion.

Wow, these aren’t just regular candles, they’re candles of the stars. I feel so special!

I’m a big fan of candles and I just love Blue Absynthe! It’s a mixture of Absinthe, vetyver, blonde woods, basil and rosemary and was supposedly inspired by a “Moulin Rouge esq environment” whatever that means. The candle itself is very classy and elegant, it looks good even when it’s not lit. My only complaint is that the first time I burned it it smoked so bad it set off my smoke alarm!

Bonus-science-fact-for-those-of you-who-think-my- reviews-don’t-have-enough-intellectual-content-to-belong-on-the-Beauty-Brains-blog:

There is a type of wax called candelilla wax that, ironically, is not even used in candles.

I like you as a person, but I have to say I’m one of those people!

Sarah,
first i wanna say that i really appreciate your honest reviews and will keep on reading them as they come out! I was really shocked when i first saw all the negative comments that were made on your first reviews. and i’m even more shocked at the fact that they just keep on coming and little constructive criticism has been said. A lot of these ppl should really be ashamed of themselves. i hope you can take my comment as constructive criticism and use it to improve your next reviews. now as far as the “bonus-science-fact”, i would really like to see more science incorporated in your reviews. something more than just a fact would be nice, like (in this particular case) why is candelilla wax not used for candles? what kind of wax is usually used? what are the best waxes, if any, that can be used for candles and why? maybe talk more about its main aromatic ingredients; i had never heard of “vetyver” until you mentioned it here and did some research in it to find out what it is.
Good luck on your reviews! i’ll be waiting for the next one!

Thanks for taking the time to comment Alex, I’m sure Sarah appreciates it.

But I agree with Anon’s point of view. I’ve been opposed to these reviews from the beginning because they lack the kind scientific assessment that this blog was built on.

I also don’t appreciate the mocking tone Sarah has used against me in some of her previous reviews.

Thanks for the info.

Hey Lefty, lighten up. This is just a beauty blog, not the New Hampshire Journal of Medicine!

Thanks Alex, you ROCK!

It is a beauty SCIENCE blog though! Sarah Bellum, I agree with Alex that more scientific content would be much appropriate. Your reviews really have nothing to do with what this blog is supposed to be all about. I mean, a candle review? This seems more like an advertorial than a nice dosing of unbiased information.

Holy crap, Anon. Every frickin’ day of the year the Brains blog about beauty science. Once in a while I like to add a second daily post where I talk about a new product that I tried. I always highlight these as MY opinion so if you don’t like ‘em DON”T READ ‘EM! All you have to do is scroll down to find the latest cosmetic science stories from Lefty or RIghty. We’re not doing reviews instead of the science stories you like, we’re doing them in addition.

Calm yourself, okay? I’ve purposely tried to remain polite and mature; no need for the hysterics.

And you’re right, that obviously is your opinion. This is mine.

Anon: You’re right, I’m sorry I over reacted. (Bad time of the month for me.) I guess I just feel picked on because so many people have been critical of my reviews.
