I'm not an expert but a seasoned electrolysis client. My lay understanding is that this is perfectly safe in the hands of a trained practitioner. If you see a completely untrained practitioner [essentially unheard of in this country], you could get scarring, but all of that would be local to the site that was treated; nothing would happen to the rest of your body except conceivably infection/disease from an unsterilized needle. That said, all properly trained practitioners use sterile needles, and as far as I know, there has actually never been a documented case of disease transmission from electrolysis; the current cauterizes the area which makes disease transmission less likely even if an unsterile needle were used, and the needle doesn't actually puncture you, it slides into an opening that is already there. Again, my lay understanding: the electricity does not do anything to the whole body, it is a small amount of current that is localized to the site of the hair follicle and is just enough to damage the follicle so it will stop producing hair. You might check out the american electrology association www.electrology.com, or the forums at the hairtell.com site, where you can ask questions about professional electrolysis.

There is absolutely no other method of hair removal being as safe, effective and permanent as electrolysis for all hair colors and skin types.
