Cyber-Lingerie

Today’s post shows how the Internet is changing the way we shop for intimate apparel. lingerie

Check out this virtual dressing room from KnickerPicker (I love that name!) The website lets you try on lingerie before you buy it (sort of.) It’s a lot of fun, even though they only have 3 different models to choose from. (I just wish they sold Spanx bodysuits, I’d love to see how they help shape the different models.)

What do YOU think? Are these 3 models close enough to your body type to be helpful, or is this just another marketing gimmick? Leave a comment and let the rest of the Beauty Brains community know what you think.

I love the idea, but I think that 3 models is way too few. My shape definitely wasn’t there!

I think it’s a really neat idea and I loved some of the their lingerie items but I have to agree with Jenny in that I don’t think 3 models are enough.

Way too few models, but the idea is fabulous! LLBean.com used to have a ‘virtual model’ that you could put in your measurements and ‘try’ swimsuits on. I checked today, and they no longer have that available on their website. They were ahead of their time on that one!

Don’t they have virtual model on places like ivillage.com?

As a heavier girl, there was no model with my shape on that site, making the tool useless for me.
Good idea though…

Marketing gimmick! Especially those “virtual models” that supposedly match your exact body shape. Of course the clothes are going to look good on the models! They’re trying to sell them! What you won’t find out is whether the clothing is too tight in one part, fits weird at another part, doesn’t flatter your skin tone, etc. etc.

I don’t trust any of these.

I agree with sofi. My imagination is good enough that I can picture what something will look like on me. But how can their models tell me if the underwear is going to ride up, or if the underwire is going to pinch?

Judy February 10, 2008 at 7:57 am

I have used the virtual model at Lands End and I found it fun to work with. My model did resemble ME with all my flaws. The problem WAS however that you could only put certain clothing items on the model which in the end was UNHELPFUL.

OK, I am a man. But I know MANY men who like bigger women, so much so that they have married them.
So if this site gets interest from the male community (who DOESN’T like attractive women in nice underwear walking in front of them?) they may produce heavier models and a better selection of clothing to serve females.
I’ve bought my share of nice undies for my lady, after all!

very sexy

The vast majority of men don’t like big women. They settle with them. We are not all thin to so we often meet our match. However, it’s safe to say that many men can deal with a little bit of weight and sometimes will settle for a little more. But we don’t LIKE them like that BETTER.

Haniya September 21, 2008 at 11:12 pm

This is a good idea. But why don’t you give the option to enter our measurementend and check the stuff. Because i’m out of these nice shapes, still I love to get these for me.

Benny October 8, 2008 at 8:02 am

Susil, who are you to say the ‘vast majority.’ Just because allot of the blokes you may know go for the skinny things doesn’t mean the ‘vast majority.’
Honestly, it’s about even either way.
Don’t forget other cultures do prefer larger woman, these cultures make up allot of the worlds population too, mine being one of them. =]

It was really great! thanks for sharing this great information.

Jami June 6, 2009 at 7:26 am

I see five models available. But none resemble a fat cow like me. Not even the biggest one.

Janis June 7, 2009 at 10:43 am

The vast majority of men like whatever they like. Just like women. I’ve seen my friends DROOL over guys that I wouldn’t even notice, and I’ve had men who prefer something other than me give me a pass when others have literally walked into doors craning around to take a look. I guarantee you there are guys who wonder what the hell the fuss is about Angelina.

Think about it. There are enough shortlegged flatchested women around that someone’s passing those genes quite successfully. Same with me and thin little men with dark hair. *shrug*

Jami June 7, 2009 at 1:28 pm

Janis, if that was directed at me, I refuse to believe any man who is sane and sober would ever find a 237 pound pig like me attractive. I’ve heard way too many times that I’m “a nice person but too fat to be seen with in public” to believe that anyone is that desperate.

My point was though that there are more models available. Just none shaped like me. Not even the one claiming to be my size.

Not a big deal as there’s not a single piece of undies there I’d ever consider buying. I’m a granny panties kind of girl.

tsunamino June 8, 2009 at 12:45 pm

KnickerPickers seems to have heard our plea and added 2 more models. They’re now up to 5.

And different people like different types of people. Confidence and a great smile definitely helps!

Carmen June 10, 2009 at 10:31 pm

Try out eyes lips face’s makeup tool. You can upload your own picture and try all kinds of makeup and hair. It’s awesome!

Jami June 13, 2009 at 10:25 pm

Tsu – you can’t convince me. Men ONLY want skinny. And men who claim they’re into fat chicks are either lying to impress skinny girls or have low self esteem and think they can’t do any better.

That’s how it is with men. Fat woman = ugly and worthless. Skinny woman = beautiful and sexy.

Confidence has NOTHING to do with it. Men ONLY care about looks. Period.

Justine June 15, 2009 at 9:22 pm

Confidence begins in the mirror… beautiful, designer lingerie makes me feel sexier than hell!

Kandace June 21, 2009 at 1:32 pm

Jami, you’re wrong! I’m sorry. Put down the fashion magazines and go out into the real world.

If you’re going to generalize men, let me generalize you for a moment: Women only like men that look like Brad Pitt and could never find a pudgy geek attractive. Any woman who doesn’t like only the Brad Pitt type is either lying to impress people or think they can’t do any better. No woman has any different preferences whatsoever in a man. All women would take a good-looking abusive man over a sweet pudgy one (as an example).

Hello!? Don’t say men ONLY want one kind of woman. Men have preferences just like women have preferences. It’s ridiculous to say they don’t.
