SSS is basically mineral oil - another name for petrolatum! It also contains isopropyl palmitate, dicapryl adipate and dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate. It seems to work as a barrier to insects as it has a good emollient so it spreads across the skin and blocks their entry. Possibly not good to have the skin coated for any really long period BUT overall it is far less toxic than DEET.
