We’ve got bunches of blog posts on hair fiber info but we haven’t written much about the psychological side of hair care. So when I got an email from AXE Hair about their findings on the psychological effect men’s hair has on women, I thought it would make an interesting post. Basically the message boils down to three things:
3 things women look for in mens hair
- 74 percent of women say that hair is one of the first things they notice about a guy.
- 80 percent wish guys would wash their hair more.
- Nearly 90 percent agree that over-gelled hair (aka the “gelmet”) turns them off.
But for me the most interesting part of this entire story (besides learning the term “gelmet”) was that the researchers also asked guys the same questions and they thought they were doing just fine with their grooming routines. Those poor slobs don’t have a clue!
While this isn’t the kind of scientific study that that Lefty likes to talk about, it was based on a national sample of 2,500 girls between the ages of 18-24. That’s good enough for me!
What do YOU think? Do you think guys hair is important? Do you agree with the results of this study or do you have your own pet peeves about guys hair? Leave a comment so you can educate the male readers of the Beauty Brains. It looks like they could use your help!

Sure. I love a good head of hair on a man. Thick, shiny, dark, and long is the best.
I like clean cut guys with a touch of grey at the temples. There’s something so sexy about short hair on a man with that little bit of grey that hints he has more experience….
And it’s got to be clean hair too. No oiled down mess.
cute new AXE commercial…
