I'm not sure what initially caused them but I ended up getting rid of all of my makeup and brushes on the advice of my doctor. You really don't want to mess with a potential infections, especially around your mucuous membranes and sensitive eye skin. I'm currently in mortuary school and I'm learning about gangrene, abscesses, etc. These things are potentially dangerous and while it's important to be environmentally conscious your health is also important. They also make embalming difficult so please don't die with an abscess. For awhile in high school I had problems with styes.
