I have fine, highlighted long hair. I started flat ironing it about a year ago. I used a CHI. I used all the protectors and only flat ironed it maybe twice a month. It was in extremely good condition until last week when I went in for a hair cut. As the hairstylist brushed through my hair while she dried it, it broke off. I could not believe it! One moment my hair was beautiful and the next it was broken off and frizzy. I went back in for an in-salon Kerastase treatment. Will go back again next month for another treatment. In the meantime, I am using Kerestase Nutridefense and Age Recharge (expensive but worth every penny to restore your hair) together every time I wash my hair. I leave it on for an hour each time. Would be best to sleep with it in though. After just a week, my hair is in much better shape but I'll have to wait a while before most of the damage has grown out. I am going in every six weeks for a trim. Hopefully by summer, (six months from now), my hair will be mostly restored. So my advice is to keep the flat irons out of your hair because it WILL break off. Also, if your hair is already light brown, you may want to use a tint on it rather than bleach. Not near as harsh. I wish I had never used a flat iron....but lesson learned and I am on the road to having my hair back.

I've been using Matrix Biolage Ultra Hydrating Balm conditioner for the past 4 years! I absolutely love it! I currently use Pault Mitchell Super Skinny serum then Joico Silk Results Thermal Smoother Spray. Concentrating on the ends before I flat iron. I alternate flat irons too, FHI heat technique 1" pink (my holy grail) and the original 1" CHI.

Currently I'm using Charles Worthington Heat Defence Spray. Not bad, though I seem to get breakouts the next day after using it, not sure whether my skin is allergic to something in it...
