The best thing I've found to repel mosquitoes -- even better than commercial repellants -- is rubbing crushed up beauty berry leaves on my skin. That stuff is amazing and grows all over the southeast U.S.!

Once I rubbed my arms with it in the morning but forgot to rub my legs. That night my legs were COVERED with mosquitoes despite repeated sprayings of OFF (which I didn't need to spray on my arms). The next day, I had maybe one bite on my arms but my legs were covered so badly with bites that there was more red than white. It looked like I had some horrible disease!

Fortunately, I found that crushed lemon balm worked VERY well to remove the itch. I had tried baking soda and several OTC meds the local pharmacist recommended but they didn't even touch it and I was having problems sleeping -- or doing anything productive -- because it itched so much.

I'm not one that believes that natural is necessarily better, but I definitely recommend giving these things a try and would love to see more scientific research on them.
