Women Need Skin Products More Than Men

by Mid Brain on November 1, 2009 · 6 comments

It’s bad enough that men make more money than women for doing the same job, but this is just ridiculous. According to skin researchers in Germany, women’s skin ages faster than men’s! Life is so unfair.

In their study, the researchers used pulses of laser light to measure the amount of collagen and elastin in the skin. Collagen is responsible for giving skin its strength and elasticity. As you get older your body produces less collagen so skin looks droopy and wrinkled. These researchers found that women lose collagen at faster rates than men. So if it seems like you have to work harder to keep your skin looking good than the men in your life, you’re right.

Are products such as the LightStim Photo Rejuvenation Light able to stimulate celluar regeneration? They claim ATP an energy carrier of the cells, this increase causes the cells to produce substances needed by the body and a few of these substances produced are collagen and elastin. Please comment on their claims.Thank you.Yvonne Ruiz

It’s doubtful that using LightStim will help your skin at all. However, we haven’t investigated the product so we can’t give a definitive opinion. Look for this in a future post.

Women have a menopause and men don’t, that must be one of the contributing factors. Was the study done on pre- or post- menopausal women?

Women also have children. I know that my mom’s pregnancy with me was rough on her body (sorry Mum), so I imagine pregnancy could be a factor as well.

I believe women are more skin conscious than men as they start taking care of their skin at a very early age wherein, men are more gadget conscious. Compared to men; women undergo lot of hormonal changes right from childhood to old age and they tend to be more fragile physically; so any kind of tough situation or change is visible on the skin, though they are mentally tougher than men. Following the basic routine of toning, moisturizing and cleansing should fight aging at the right time! How safe are these laser treatments?

Hmmm! seems like more information is needed before a definitive conclusion can be realized.
