Hairy Jewelry From Hair

by Mid Brain on December 17, 2009 · 3 comments

I recently blogged about a cool new kind of jewelry made from human hair. The artist takes tiny strands of real hair and makes amazingly intricate pictures that are incorporated into pendants and bracelets. In a new, and somewhat disturbing, update, I’ve found another kind of hair jewelry. This time an artist has taken synthetic hair and made accessories that really LOOK like hair. Ewww.

Check out Inventorspot.com for more pictures and links to the artist’s site.

Would you wear jewelry that looks like you just cut off your ponytail? Leave a comment and share your thoughts with the rest of the Beauty Brains community.

This kind of jewelry has been around since the 1800’s. The victorians used it as a memento of a dead loved one. Creepy but the skill and artistry that went into it was amazing.

While I have a couple of envelopes – one for each kid – with a snippet of hair from their first haircut, I do find the idea of wearing cut hair creepy. A few years ago, I met a woman whose DH grew a ponytail each year and then cut it off. Ok…but they saved each one, in a cotton-lined box with the date written on the outside. Maybe I have watched too much CSI/NCIS, but I always wonder what would happen if the wrong person stumbled upon those boxes in their absence.
