Does This Beauty Gadget Make You Smile Or Just Laugh?

by Mid Brain on March 31, 2010 · 7 comments

Long time readers of the Beauty Brains know how much we love wacky beauty gadgets like the Eyelash Curler From Outer Space. Here’s another one to add to the list: the Beauty Smile Trainer.

Mile wide smile

This clever device comes to us from Japan, the birth place of the wackiest beauty gadgets in the world. It’s designed for all of those people who are dissatisfied with the quality of their smile. I don’t mean just the whiteness of your teeth, I’m talking about the actual shape of your mouth when you open it to smile.  According to Inventor Blogspot, this rubber gadget fits inside your mouth and supposedly enhances your natural smile by training your mouth muscles to assume the right shape.

Does it really work? Until we see some data showing that this kind of muscle memory device has any lasting effect we have to be skeptical. In the meantime, let’s just hope Sarah Bellum doesn’t buy one – the last thing she needs is to have her mouth stretched open anymore!

This one is actually kind of legitimate. A lot of Asians have a hard time pulling a photogenic smile. The forced, unnatural grimace-smile is pretty common (you know, the kind that looks like it was taken at an orthodontist’s office). I think the device itself has _some_ merit and would be more willing to debate the idea of there being just one “right” look for photos.

I actually smiled after reading this. But still I’m looking forward to reading more posts and reviews about this gadget.

lol @ this! At first I thought it looked like something you put in your mouth to create the smile shape…which if they could put in some kind of bounce-back spring thingy; might actually work? I’m up in the air about whether this could be effective…it’s probably about as good as that neck-slimmer chin exceriser thingy.

@msgotrox – can you be more specific about what you mean about Asians’ ability to smile? That sounds like a pretty broad statement and I’d love to see any data or photo evidence to back it up. And is the level of photogenicness (not a word, I know) the only measure of what makes a good smile?

This is a funny one, BUT I think a lot of people have a hard time smiling for pictures and have it appear natural. Cool if it actually works!

@ Divagirl – msgotrox might have a point there. The asian product has a picture of a white girl smiling. “Buy this product and you can have a radiant smile like the wide eye american girl” I can only infer base on the packaging that asian woman are not prone to pull off a photogenic smile.
