Teresa tells us about her latest purchase…Hi, I just bought new skin care with grape seed extract. Any comments or news on this? Thank you.
The Right Brain’s viney reply:
Once again, we reference our post about the use of Grapeseed extract in CaudalĂe, one of Jennifer Aniston’s favorite cosmetics. There does appear to be some evidence that grapeseed extract- type ingredients can have a beneficial effect. We quote our earlier post:
The experts agree antioxidants are important but they say that sun protection is a key to fighting skin damage and premature aging. According to Smartskincare.com polyphenols, like those used by Caudalie, “appear to exert sun damage protection by quenching free radicals and reducing inflammation rather than by blocking UV rays” and therefore “may synergistically enhance sun protection when used in addition to a sunscreen.” So, while grape-based antioxidant treatments can be helpful, you should still use a sunscreen.
The Beauty Brains bottom line
The combination of antioxidants and sunscreens can be weapon in the war against wrinkles. Just shop wisely – not everyone can afford the same products as Jen!

According to that i know, something important about antioxidants is the concentration, if they are not among the first ingredients the product doesnt worth it.
Another point is packaging, antioxidants are destroyed in presence of air, light and/or high temperatures.. so in case the product comes in a jar the benefits are just gone (maybe even before you open it). For this, when comes to antioxidants, we must choose opaque and airtight packages.
A study of healthy volunteers found that taking grape seed extract did substantially increase levels of antioxidants in their blood. Antioxidants are substances that destroy free radicals — harmful compounds in the body that damage DNA (genetic material) and even cause cell death. Free radicals are believed to contribute to aging as well as the development of a number of health problems, including heart disease and cancer.
Another thing about antioxidants in skin care, even if they are active when the product is put together, most lose that by the time they reach your skin.
There is a way to test your products which claim to have active antioxidants in them. (I did an article on this.) It’s surprising what the results can be.
There are ways for the manufacturer to protect the active ingredients, and keep them fresh and still active, so you can actually benefit from it.
