Slow Economy Means Simple Perfumes

The recession has affected a lot of things – the real estate industry…the layoff rates…the foreclosure rates…the mental health and morale of American citizens…. But did you expect it to reach all the way into the fragrance industry?

It has, says CosmeticsDesign. These days, perfumes are much more likely to be made up of one or two components, making them simpler than they were in the good old days. In addition, female fragrances are getting woodier and muskier as scents previously associated with the cologne industry change sides. Apparently, not everything the recession touches with its death grip turns out bad.

Yuck. I’m sorry but woody and musky smells are for men, not women. I want to smell like a pretty flower, the way women should smell. Not like a man, man.

So…does this mean I can get a lilace perfume that smells like lilac? They don’t grow down here, and ooooohhh, how I miss that!

Leslie, there are lilac perfumes out there. Google them! I think Annick Goutal makes one and there is an ‘old timey’ one that I used to see in the Vermont General Store catalogue.

Simple is nice; I like single note perfumes, though I disagree that women are supposed to smell like flowers. What are men supposed to smell like, snails and puppy dog tails? I like all kinds of aromas, and accordingly, I wear the scent I like without insulting people’s taste. Why is that so hard?

i find the comment about how men are supposed to smell kind of funny..in victorian days any man who was anybody wore heady floral fragrances. one may prefer their man to smell woodsy and musky, but i don’t know that means that is how men are supposed to smell….

For some reason this made me think of a book where one of the characters wore pure vanilla extract as her signature scent. Simple enough, but not cheap. :-)

Woody and musky smells shouldn’t be for anyone.

This is completely understandable. People are trying to cut back. I just buy a cheap mist. I just learned this new tip, where you spray your mist or perfume in your brush before you comb your hair! Your hair will smell amazing! http://fitandfabliving.com/index.php/hairstyles/3119-aromatic-hair.html

Only in the USA are fragrances male or female scents. In Europe everything is unisex. It’s about what smells good on your skin.
