The Beauty Brains Secret Project

by Right Brain on August 15, 2010 · 15 comments

The Beauty Brains owe you an apology.

We neglected to tell you, our loyal community, that our blog content would look a little different for the next month or two. That’s because the Left Brain and I are working on a new top secret project and we’ve asked our intern, Mid Brain, to take over the daily posts while we’re gone. So, instead of our usual questions and answers you’ve seen news articles that Mid Brain hoped you would find interesting. We say HOPED because it has become apparent through the comments in a few of these posts that some of you don’t care for this alternate content.

Rest assured, the Beauty Brains have not changed our basic mission – we are still here to educate and entertain you. We have not “sold out” to advertisers. But we can’t research your questions and work on our new project at the same time- hence the need for a helping hand from Mid Brain.  We’ll return to our regular format in a month or so, but in the meantime (if this new content isn’t to your liking) there is still plenty of lively Q&A discussion going on in our Forum. And of course you can always check our archives to see if we’ve previously answered a question that interests you.

Thanks for your patience and, as always, it’s your passionate support that makes working on this blog worthwhile.

P.S. As soon as the Left Brain will let us, we’ll give you a sneak peak at our secret project!

You can post articles that are informative, but please no more advertising !

Jami August 15, 2010 at 6:34 pm

I wish people would stop whining about the “advertising.” It’s no different then reading an article in a fashion magazine about a new product. Do you whine to Cosmo or Vogue about them “advertising” a product?

Goodness, some people need to grow up.

This is good news! I was saddened by the thought that the Beauty Brains had evaporated into advertising. Thanks for letting us know.

I consider the Beauty Brains to be a reliable source of information, and advertising can often get in the way of accuracy. So I do think it is important to have some objectivity in the posts, even if advertising is necessary to keep the blog and its projects afloat.

I agree with Jami. Whats the big deal with advertising as long as the information being portrayed is accurate about the product? You could learn about some interesting products that way!

Sarah August 16, 2010 at 9:48 am

It didn’t seem like advertising to me–more matters of curiosity or interest that sometimes involved products (some of which, by the way, none of us would use, e.g., nose clips, but might be curious about).

Just wanted to throw my support in as well. I concur with Jami’s point. Without quite getting into the meta of the pervasive nature of advertising: it’s everywhere. The movie I went to last night had it, my mail (both e- and real) has it, magazines are practically nothing but, so, it’s inescapable. Here at BBrains we know the in between is pretty solid, so the trade off is, honestly, quite reasonable.

Thanks for all your efforts, secret and declassified!

Good luck with the project! I can’t wait to see it!!

Also, The Secret is stupid.

The quality of the writing is also an issue. From the post on the nose clip:
“f you aren’t that into laying on the table as someone cuts into your face”

Should have been “lying on the table”

I understand that you’re focused on this new project, but a little training is in order.

This isn’t journalism, it’s a blog post. They don’t have the budget for proofreaders. Give them a break.

Thank goodness. I was starting to wonder…
